PEQ dead?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm new to PEQ Grand Creation server, and I was wondering if their server and website being down for about 12 hours is something to be worried about, or if this is some sort of weekly maintenance I don't know about. Thanks in advance for any helpful info anyone posts.

trevius 04-23-2009 06:31 PM

No, if there was something to be concerned about, you would have seen posts about it here from the server's team already. I think they are experiencing some network issues IIRC. I think I read something about that recently anyway.

cavedude 04-23-2009 06:36 PM

We've had ongoing problems with temperature control in the data center where we are hosted. Their AC must have gone to all hell over the past 2 days because PEQ has been completely unusable. I put a request in to just shut us down until everything is settled on their end, rather than kill our new hardware. I don't have anymore information at this point, and won't until FNW comes back from his trip as he's the only one who has physical access to the server.

EDIT: Short version, don't worry we'll be back up.

cavedude 04-23-2009 06:46 PM

Any PEQ users who wish to gather, join us in irc. Server is irc.eqemulator.net, channel is #npcmovdb.

vales 04-23-2009 07:03 PM

Thanks for the heads up, CD. ;-)

cavedude 04-23-2009 08:26 PM

Server is back up, so we can use our forums. I am keeping the game server for now until I feel better about our stability. However, I don't believe they would have started us back up unless the heat problems in the data center were under control.

Ceazar69 04-23-2009 10:12 PM

There up!...Errr.now there down...grrr

;) I call mine "the NOC"... basically a Dell poweredge 2900 standing in the corner of my study with a fan blowing on it.

tobbygnome 04-24-2009 11:42 AM

yes, seems the PEQ members are withering without any forums and EQ, but 1 thing is that the IRC server that CD posted above may sometimes be down so instead, try using THIS: irc.eq2emulator.net #npcmovdb instead and that will most likely connect to the IRC. Also it would be nice to have a ventrilo or teamspeak server running for PEQ, i know shadestrike had one going but he must of killed it, but nowdays ventrilo is very usefull and small, maybe someone in US might consider running one?

Cheers, Tobbygnome

In my experience, OUTGOING fans help a lot more than incoming. having fans near the PC or Server blowing the heat from it out seems to do better. My PC has a lot of equipment in it that should generate a lot of heat, and I have just 1 outgoing fan in the back and it never overheats heh

Updates

Any updates yet as to when we might be up again? I am one of those people who twitches when they cant play eq for days on end.

tobbygnome 04-24-2009 06:42 PM

lol Foin, i know what you meen, i have had 2 all nighters all EQ free but still having EQ open on my second monitor checking that list to see the return of PEQ. Dont worry my friend, it will come back soon, in the meantime, try watching movies and tv eps to pass the time like i have. It actually feels like a really long time since i've played EQ for some reason even though its only been a couple of days.

Too bad we are in a several hundred machine server farm room with a faulty AC unit :(

No updates on PEQ, though they keep bringing us up and down, mostly likely to conserve the limited cool air for the paying customers :)

Don't feel bad cavedude, my server had power issues then the power supply failed. It is how the dedicated biz goes :P

Edit: Btw Rogean's IRC server was down, try eqnet.eqemulator.net

Ceazar69 04-24-2009 09:52 PM

A/C technician here, whats the A/C doing/not doing maybe i can talk ya' thru the fix

jellyini 04-25-2009 10:51 AM

Suddenly it's all become clear...

It's all a conspiracy, see? CD gets all his honey-do list by 'overheating' the servers. I mean so far he's had an offer to wash his car and fix his A/C. I think he's waiting til some one offers to paint his house.

It's beautiful in it's simplicity. Get a bunch of junkies hooked and pull the "fix." They'll do ANYTHING for you. 8-)

J

Ceazar69 04-25-2009 01:10 PM

I really dont mean to be rude , but is there another server like this one i can "GET MY FIX'..<shakes uncontrolably> until they get it fixed?.. I really dont like the <feed me with a silver spoon> or <Not EQ anymore> servers.

Ikeren 04-25-2009 02:16 PM

I think there are several servers that run PEQ databases. I know for a fact The Realm runs a PEQ database with bots enabled (you have to pay for them...100plat plus some tradeskills for the first). It's not PEQ (since you can run a full raid yourself, and lots of us can't 12-18-24 box), but it is fun and on a PEQ database.

Locco1 04-25-2009 05:58 PM

It is a little annoying to say the least lol. Before we had LS issues which for the most part are working decently now, then we had lag issues, new hardware has basically ended this all together, and now it is where our hardware is stored that is having issues lol.

We just can't cut a break it seems. I would be willing to donate to move it to a better server location but I doubt we could just up and move our new hardware as server hosts would prob make us rent theirs negating ours.

steveprutz 04-25-2009 06:27 PM

Heh. I finally get to a spot with decent internet, and my server is down!

Oh well, I'll be patient. I'll try to throw a donation in that direction, in the meantime.

donation won't help the data center's heating problems, this isn't the first time the data center had heating problems, last time was in December and it was down for like 3 weeks, but there was other shit going on too :P at least FNW is in the IRC channel, hopefully he's back from whatever and he can work on telling us what the exact problem is and ETA until fix

lorun 04-26-2009 07:01 AM

if needed, i can host a server 100mb up and down ... on the distribution you want linux, windows (need a licence), that could be temporary, and let you the time to get your server back ...
Send me a pm if interested.

jmetsrule 04-26-2009 11:37 AM

Man, I was just getting some momentum too with my toons. I hope everything works out. :)

cavedude 04-26-2009 11:54 AM

FNW (hopefully) has convinced somebody at the ISP to take a look at us and get us back up and running. If not, then the earliest we'll be able to do anything is next weekend, when FNW returns from his current business trip.

The offers to host are very generous, but I think we'll stay where we are. Besides, all the character data is on PEQ which I don't have access to, atm :)

myazmj 04-26-2009 01:14 PM

there are lots of places out there that will do dedicated server hosting with the same stats peq runs & bandwidth from a few TB's to unlimited for 100-200$ a month... could just do a donation push like once a year to cover the lease of the gear... best part is the host becomes responsible for keeping the server online instead of peq.

Once the data center works out the heating problems (if that is it) then we will have that, for free ;)

myazmj 04-26-2009 02:24 PM

yea, so far seems the dc its in is not up to the task... professionally run DC's that guarentee uptime have to get things like AC's fixed in hours instead of days/weeks. but you get what ya pay for... this case being free so not much lol.

Try ALL Servers...

Every server in Eqemu is some version of the PEQ Database other than Raid Addicts..

And don't worry guys that server is nearly as old as mine , so for SURE they will return... Us old school folks are here to stay..

I gotta say ive never heard of a professional DC having these kinds of issues with heating, perhaps its time to think of moving peq to something more reliable? seems every couple of months this happens

Ever since they moved us to a new building, we've had problems. But, the thing is we have access to unlimited uncapped 100mpbs bandwidth using our own Dual Quad Core Xeon box for free. You can't beat that.

WhereIsTony 04-26-2009 06:23 PM

Meh, a problem every couple of months seems a minor thing indeed.

Stick with the free in my opinion.

Foin 04-27-2009 09:43 AM

Down for the whole week

So i guess from what Ive heard we are down until next weekend at least correct? can anyone confirm this?

ruinus 04-27-2009 05:09 PM

haha, i had just started right before they went down... i miss it XD

That should be the longest time that it might be down. But, I believe FNW is going to try to contact someone to resolve it before then if possible. So, once the AC issue is all worked out, it should just need a power up.

KingMort 04-27-2009 07:14 PM

AC Issue??

They are having overheating issues where the servers are. It's understandable that they want to protect the hardware--the stuff is brand new, right?

Foin 04-27-2009 07:22 PM

Heating issues for a week or more doesnt sound right though. Wonder how many computers fried.

trevius 04-27-2009 07:30 PM

It isn't too uncommon for Data Centers to have heating issues during the first warm days of the year. In the building I work at, our server room has the same issue every year. Apparently there is a leak in the coolant and they just have to come back out and refill the coolant again. Normally it shouldn't last a week, but a few days probably isn't uncommon considering how busy AC guys probably are this time of year. The problem is that the low coolant still works fine when the weather isn't hot, because it still cools enough as long as the AC runs high. But, once it gets to a certain point, the AC can't keep it cool enough even if it runs around the clock.

This is just a guess about what is happening in the Data Center that PEQ is hosted in, but I think it is probably a similar case.
