EQ-Heroes (Alpha)
Hey, pretty much first time i post here but waited long enough to put it out on the forum and stop lurking.
I am currently, like so many others working on a server :) at the moment it's hosted on a dedicated 2.4 Ghz duo core with 3GB of ram and a 100mbit connection running windows 2003 Server. Ive not had allot of pre-experiance making a gameworld, but i do have 17'ish years worth of pen and paper GM'ing under my belt for content creation. ok so here go's, The server will be mainly pve until lvl 55 anyone doing the lvl 55 quest for either the Hero or Shadow side will be flagged for pvp, but until then no ganking the lowbees. Three Factions: The Heroes: The main good guys faction, their veteran rewards favor Health, AC and regeneration and in that aspect they make for very strong melee fighters. The Epic 51+ quest line is about becomming the main Hero of the server and is limited to the 4 people that complete it first. Upon completing it at lvl 60 they recieve the title "The Hero" and hero equipment. The Shadows: These are your normal villains, their veteran rewards favor Mana, Special Spells and mana regeneration and in that aspect they make for very good casters or great hybrids. Their Epic 51+ quest line is all about becomming this server main villains and the first 4 Villains to complete it recieve the title The Shadow and their own Raidzone with themselves being the bosses and there very own(ed) Cursed weapons. The Centurions: These are a neutral faction, their veteran rewards contain both heroes and villain equipment and they do not have an epic quest line to complete, most likely the better choice for dual boxed characters. Other Server Featueres: Multi account up to 3 characters Normal XP gain: No 5x easy mode, sorry Double AAXP gain: Ok ok, maybe a litle easier Max lvl 51 trough normal xp means: from here on out it's questlines or raids to get that lvl up All Expansions enabled: but with a catch being lvl 51 max will pose problems to those who venture out of classic and so equipment and AAxp becomes that more important. Custom Legendary, Fabled, Mythical equipment to offset lvl penalties Unique single drops and powerfull Cursed items All level restrictions disabled on equipment Every Named has 900+ custom item drops in their loot tables (no diablo stuff) (Working on this atm) Veteran Point system, the longer you are active on the server the more powerfull you will become, rivaling the power of raidbosses over time. lvl 51 starts the Epic questline, and is the only way to reach lvl 80 lvl 55 quest that enables you to pvp against the ones who also did this quest or gang upon a Veteran player with raid powers and last but not least, the Epic Quests won't have a linear path to them, they will have multiple choices and it will affect their outcome depending on your choices. And yes you can fuck them up, Epic-ly as what happens most of the time when players try something in pen and paper RPG's. The new tutorial has for an example 4 diffrent endings. (you will know that you screwed yourself out of 3 possible endings when you recieve the Quest, "Only one choice left...." wich isn't exactly a choice anymore at that point. As a note, i won't be going for fancy webpages, all custom UI content etc but i will be going for a more classic EQ feel with that powerfull Hero/Villain type outlook trough enhanced items, spells and a pretty engaging storyline that will pull across Norrath starting at lvl 51. Oh and no it's not going to be easy Currently i got a simple webpage up at www.eq.cobra-games.com (used my pen and paper domain to host the site under a subdomain) and for those who wish can try it out by downloading the patches on the download page. But for the moment i am leaving it on my private login server as there are to many things not finished yet but for those who do like it already, there won't be any wipes when it go's live on the login server here. Only a little xp modifier bonus. Anyways, hope to see some to try it out :) |
Seems like a very cool idea. With a large community, this could really work well.

And this servers pretty fun guys.. dont let the 1x xp scare ya too bad.. it sucks a little but you get good gear to make it go fast. by time you farm out the starter zone youve probably got 1-2k hp, 50%haste and good weapons :) |

I'll check it out this evening (server still appears to be down at the moment), but I have a question about bots since I've never played with them before (I'm new to EQEMU). Is it like GuildWars, where you can hire (or summon, in this case) people to fill out the team/group? Are they controlled like pets or do they have their own AI?

Ive never played guildwars but yeah you summon the bots and they have their own AI.

Updated The Plane of Fear with +-400 Legendary/Fabled/Mythical drops as the first changed raid zone Added the Six Shadowlords Raid Tier 1 (lvl 50-55 3 Day respawn) to the Classic zones Changed teleporting out of the Tutorial to the Plane of Knowledge instead of freeport and Commonlands Added an NPC to tutorial that allows you to port out and finish the tutorial quest, don't forget to pickup your gear first from Bork Axehandle first More to come soon |
Is it still setup to where you need to CR your corpse?

Fear should normally require a corps recovery if you happen to croack in there unless there are other means for it that came after planes of power and that i am unaware off. zones after classic will be locked soon and will open depending who controls them either Heroes or Shadows (pve related control) so even if you can use after pop stuff now it won't work as we move further in development of the server.

At this moment in the alpha stage of the server we have all the classic dungeons revamped (except Kedge) to gear up on and if you would group (or multibox) with a few people do fear for the Tier 1 raid gear that drops. (lvl 50)
Character power is quite high once you are equiped in Legendary/fabled and should let you accomplish quite allot. At this moment i am working on getting the Faction Progression system in place over extra content as all the new content will be linked and updated trough the system as both Heroes and Shadows push on so its better for me to first get the core up and running then updating each and everything over and over as i implement stuff. There will be quite allot of solo content and raid content when it is up and powerfull character will be able to take out raid targets on their own. Anyways in short check out some of the dungeons and watch out for (X) Heroic mobs when you are in there. |

No, don't change the exp. Its perfect right now, its boring to get to the max lvl on your first day of play. You wouldn't experience all the content.
Also, want to say this is an awesome server. Very fun going through and getting the new custom loot. I look forward to unlocking the high end content. Thanks for putting in the time and effort to make a great server. |
Level limit on xp is set at lvl 51 and unless both factions unlock an expansion the level limit will stay 51, only trough Accomplishments your level will go up.
In short getting passed lvl 51 will be tough for everyone and is not required to be able to partake in the servers content at all and as such the level speed will stay as it is atm. Tanda, thanks and your welcome. I got 3 weeks vacation in may and will most likely be able to finish the core system in that timeframe and from then on its adding the content and lore to the server :) Still got quite a ways to go tough until i got classic finished. |

Those 2 should be quite fine add solusek B to that list and you should be able to equip yourself and your bots quite nicely

What it Appears 2 be
is that the high end zones , like hole all the nameds ive killed there , ive harlde got any loot , apart from epics and the same loot ive got from like crushbone and apparntly it takes a while to get 1 peice of armour from Pofear? and its 1 piece out of 16 classes ( 16 armour peices) so 1 / 256 chance of getting the Piece you want and appanrlty it can take upto 30mins to get once piece :-) |
Many loot tables on (X) heroic mobs have been linked since you outlevel zones to fast even with normal xp and the basic idea is to gear up while you go so when you reach lvl 51 your decently geared up to tackle the content to come and not have x item be completely underpowered when you get up there. Also drop rates in higher lvl dungeons are higher drop % then the lower level dungeons so its prolly a bad streak.
That said, PoF has an even higher drop % due to many classes having their gear drop there but if you go solo killling stuff will be slower then when you group or duo it. I also would like to say that at this moment itemizations is 20% done and all the dungeons named when done will drop their own loot again instead of the current linked table we have now. I just have to put priorities into what i work on atm and i could also just lock the server but i find it a waste to do that. So while the server moves on into development quite allot of things will improve :) The Server will allow for incredible player power along the road but it won't become one that instantly gives everything away. |

EQ-Heroes Core System is almost finished
Many times you heard me talking about the Core System, It took me a while but here it is, we will call it TCS from now on. The TCS is a system that controls expansion progression unlike a normal server, Progression is unlocked by the admin, here at EQ-Heroes progression is handled by the player-base of the server. Two of the three factions gain points in order to unlock an expansion these are the heroes and the shadows, the centurions take no part in unlocking but they benefit from it. They are able to enter an expansion the moment one of the other two factions unlock it. During Alpha-test the points to unlock are 100 for kunark and 150 for velious, once beta starts these numbers change to 1000 and 1500 as to not unloking it on the same day. Future expansions when finished will be added to the list of unlocks as will special raidmobs etc be included aswell. How to gain these points, for the heroes they are called Hero Points for shadows, Shadow Points. They are gained by killing raidmobs for your faction or by leveling a Soulstone. (about the SS more later) They are also gained from killing deployed troops from the opposing faction. Faction NPC's: All npcs we talk about communicate with each other even if they are not in the same zone. The All Seeing Eye: This NPC controls the entire system network of npcs that update all the points and the npc controls the Expansion Unlocking mechanism, only the faction Hero (all four) can unlock an expansion so as long as the main quest has not been done yet and no Hero or Shadow is ingame progression is locked. Shadow Gates: You might have noticed these in some zones, they regulate who can enter and who cant they also ping the eye to check for updates, they also regulate troop deployment. Faction Captain: This guy handles faction titles and Soulstone / Weapon upgrades in a nutshell. Faction Titles, each faction has unique titles that can be bought with Veteran Points the higher the title the better spell effect you get. Soulstone: This stone is given to you at the end of tutorial and boosts your character by 1000 mana, health and stamina for each level it posseses so a stone at level 100 means 100.000 each wich is not needed to beat the servers content but allows you to grow stronger if you like. Bots can also recieve the same stone, leveling the stone is done by turning level 51 and trading these 51 levels for 1 SS level. This works up to SS level 10, for level 11 you need to be level 52 and so on. Soul Weapon: At SS level 20, one can convert the stone into a weapon for their class, this can only be done once and the weapon can be leveled as a Soulstone the weapon starts out as a very basic Mythical III weapon but gains power rapidly each level. The weapon as the SS has 100 levels. Faction Sergeant: This Guy handles faction troop deployment to dungeons, while deployed for each 1 hour they stay alive they provided their faction with 1 faction Point, it is rather urgent for factions to kill these troops as soon as possible, however theres always a catch. When someone level 55 enters an occupied dungeon they become pvp enabled and factions can defend their troops from being taken out. There are diffrent types of troops availeble for deployment depending on rank and availble Command Points. Faction Commander and/or General: These will give players daily quests that can be done for Veteran/Command and Faction Points. Currently only one quest is availble but this will be expanded upon. Faction Points: As you know these are used to unlock expansions, but what you don't know is that it also releases Champions and by this we mean Raidbosses. The faction with the most points will start to spawn Champions of the opposite side this means that the higher a factions points are, more opposing forces are spawned around norrath. This means 2 things first more targets to raid but also the opposing factions gains points each hour they stay alive. This helps balance the power. But dont forget they drop quality items so only relying on faction champions would be a huge mistake in the long run. Also The faction leaders (Heroes and Shadows) may use these points freely to equip their character with Hero / Shadow Only equipment and unlock abilities but be warned if you are to greedy and spend x amount of these points you will become a Fallen Hero or Fallen Shadow, enabling someone else to become another Hero/Shadow. Veteran Points: These points are gained from killing raid targets and a once monthly quest, points are used for leveling passed level 51 and buying Veteran equipment this equipment can be upgraded each expansion trough new npc's. Command Points: These points are used for deploying troops in dungeons these troops then provide faction points once an hour or spawning extra troops in battlefields wich are expansion zones that run once a day and without player intervention these zones result in a draw, with player input spawning and killing soldiers these battlefields will turn out diffrent. When a side wins points are added to the faction and battlefield Champions spawn making player intervention less needed overtime, except for the loosing side. These champions drop raid quality items so the more people playon them more things become availble. Battlefields are pvp enabled. Soulpower: Soulpower is currently gained in Raid zones, Plane of Fear and Hate. Soulpower is a measurement of your characters Soul and can be used (once implemented) to buy temporary items, spawn instanced raidzones, bosses as a sort of training. SP is unlimited so it can be hoarded into infinitum, but this attracts random spawned creatures attracted to your SP, dying to them means loosing all your SP as your soul is sucked dry. Winning will yield special items and the higher your SP becomes the tougher it will be to beat said Monsters. Spending SP however means its spend, so if you think you cant handle them i would advise to spend it. I will add more as more gets implemented or in case i forgot something :p. |
