Unable to login

I recently setup EQEMU and am having difficulty logging in. Every time I am at the login screen and I try to type in my account information it just enters numbers no letters. I have read similar forums regarding this issue and have disabled all antivirus programs on my computer and still have the same problem. Nothing seems to work is there something I am missing?

Kingly_Krab 06-25-2014 03:05 PM

Are you saying that when you attempt to type in your username it prints out, for example, "1232183218," instead of your actual account name?

provocating 06-25-2014 05:32 PM

Just curious, if you open wordpad or notepad and type the exact same password, does it show there?

thecftbl 06-25-2014 09:30 PM

Yeah it just does the number strings continuously. It is odd too because it is a different number each time. I have not attempted wordpad yet but when I type in anything else while it is running there does not seem to be a problem.

provocating 06-25-2014 09:36 PM

You are typing in the EQ client? What version of the client?

thecftbl 06-25-2014 09:44 PM

Platinum. I used the beta launcher which seemed to work. I also check the host file and it has the correct pathway.

Scorpious2k 06-25-2014 09:47 PM

Just curious, what language is the client?

Try without any launcher and use the client directly.

thecftbl 06-25-2014 09:54 PM

English as far as I can tell

thecftbl 06-25-2014 10:03 PM

I just tested notepad and it works fine while eq is open. I had already made a shortcut so I could just access the client directly and that is where the number stream is happening.

provocating 06-25-2014 10:05 PM

You may want to try renaming the eqclient.ini file and let it build another one, just for test.

thecftbl 06-25-2014 10:14 PM

When renaming is there anything specific to rename? Also after renaming should i open up the shortcut or the emu launcher?

OK. I was just thinking that if it was set for a language that uses a character set that is different from english it would print gibberish looking text, but ironically it night still work since what you typed is still the same characters you typed.... in binary. Just LOOKS different to you. So it's possible that in that case you could go ahead and sign in (and it work) anyway. Just a thought.

Just rename it something like eqclient.bak, then open up the shortcut

thecftbl 06-25-2014 10:39 PM

I would think with it being binary it would appear as 0 and 1 but if you press the keys it goes from 0 to 9 oddly enough when I press shift it goes to the alternate characters (!@#) etc.

thecftbl 06-25-2014 11:00 PM

I tried renaming the eqhost.ini to .bak and it worked temporarily. However when I restarted it went back to the number sequence and now there is no eqhost.ini and only an eqlhost.ini

provocating 06-25-2014 11:06 PM

Dude, I seriously think you have a virus...maybe a rootkit. Go run Combofix

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/down...ombofix/dl/12/

And then Malwarebytes

https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

I meant it was binary in the computer. From there it is either a one or two byte set of binary values that are passed to the display routine in the operating system that creates the graphic images that are the letters you see. If it was a different character set ... never mind, that isn't what is happening in your case.

Did you buy the client or...

thecftbl 06-26-2014 02:02 AM

The file is an ISO I have had for sometime that worked in the past with eqemu. It is a titanium version.

Scorpius 06-26-2014 05:35 AM

I may be wrong here, but is the "Platinum" client compatable with emu?

I thoiugh it had to be titanium, steam UF etc, maybe wrong, but a thought?

sorry ignore -- was reading earlier post ---

Maze_EQ 06-26-2014 07:29 AM

Lol Sticky keys?

provocating 06-26-2014 07:49 AM

Yep, Sticky Keys could be on.

thecftbl 06-26-2014 10:42 AM

Nope, no sticky keys.

thecftbl 06-26-2014 01:15 PM

Ok, so I removed the previously installed antivirus programs, ran combofix, ran malwarebytes, disabled protection and still it is doing the numbers game. Any ideas?

Re-install Windows...

Before you do that, replace the client. Uninstall the old one. Do not re-install it. Get a DIFFERENT one and install that one. Since you only have this problem with the EQ client I think it is safe to assume that either it or the iso file you used to install it has been corrupted or infected.

I concur. If everything else is working, it points to the client. Honestly I would use Underfoot anyway, it is superior to Titanium IMHO.

Tabaluga_Dragon 06-26-2014 04:10 PM

Set te text READ ONLY see if changes should not change can be a fix to.

thecftbl 06-27-2014 02:21 AM

Hm I would like to use Underfoot but it seems all the downloads are corrupted. I am not sure that the steam version would be compatible with my iso's.

How are you using the iso files? What do you mean "incompatable with your iso's?"

thecftbl 06-27-2014 10:23 AM

Bought versus acquired (got them from my old external) I guess would be the conflict I would wonder about. I doubt there would be any whatsoever but then again you never know.

ISO files follow a standard, if correctly made they are always compatible. How did you learn the newer ones you got were corrupted?
