Crickets....
Anyone notice how dead the forum has been lately? Other than the entertaining posts by MarcusD, nothing has been really happening here. I know some will say that winter is slow for the Emu, but I would think that is the time things would pick up.
We need some good conspiracy theory thread. |
Akkadius is actually not a person, but the remains of Verant, hoping to keep Everquest, his baby, alive.
|
Uleat opened up his own server yesterday, true story.

Dead is perception. Coders is always very alive in the background. I'll be making a pretty big news post here soon along with quite a few other things. And yes it is the holidays.
Other people can always start positive conversation and threads. And from what I see on a daily basis there is plenty going on in the forum |
See, Akkadius is about to announce he IS Verant.

Those are the server stats though. I am just saying lately there has not been that much forum activity. Maybe it just seems that way to me. Yes I know there is plenty going on with GIT as far as code changes in the background. I am just referring to forum activity.

I actually had that "forum is quiet" feeling too, but that could be a good thing in some cases. Meaning, a lot less support questions getting asked, so people must be getting the help they need. Not that the need will ever end, but it's slowed down right now. |
I actually opened my fly too..

Thats something I don't understand, is some people's desire for competitiveness with the
servers. Not sure if their desire is to put their name in light , "Hey look at me, I got a player base of 2000". Hahaha Almost like the "friend collectors" on Facebook, lol. I prefer to remain a humble little underdog, having fun with the challenges of simply piddling around with a server. Few people come, few people go, casual, down to earth. |

I was thinking back to the 90's when I set up an IRC server, (back in the days of DalNet,etc.),
That was my first challenge of any kind of server. I didn't really care about getting any people to log on, but I had a lot of fun in learning all about it. Actually I think I still have an old copy of the Bahamut IRCD kicking around. I was using that and IRCD Services. |

All of your conspiracy theories are belong to usss!

Usually if there is a good conversation thread up, Kingly usually posts his opinion on the conversation and then it turns into a witch hunt for Kingly. *knock on wood*

The project is actually so well developed, maintained and documented that people do not need to constantly run to the forums for help anymore. |

Kayen, that is DEFINITELY a conspiracy theory!!

I'm with Kayen. Generally only time I need to open my mouth is to help someone else or if I have a complicated question.
Now if I could just get enough players interested so I can implement content the way it was originally designed. |

Also keep in mind that the fewer players you have, the less drastic difficulty increases can be. If you only ever have 1-3 players online, the difficulty change between tiers of content is fairly small. We're talking a few points of damage, a few thousand hp, etc. These difficulty changes can be much more drastic when you have a larger player base. This larger player base also allows you to more finely tune the mechanics behind that encounter, potentially creating not only a more difficult encounter, but a much more engaging one. Simple fights are part of EQ's life, nothing will change that. But some of us have amazing ideas that we really never get a chance to act upon due to limited player-base. BLUF: I design content months/years in advance, down to minute details. But during implementation reality kicks in and I have to cut things down to the point of crippling the fight. |

If you guys are bored, you could always try finishing that wiki tutorial on how to make your own zones, since I still haven't found a single, coherent guide on doing it. </grandpamode> |

I am a quiet person, but I come around the forums at least weekly to see what's up.

That type of information is not commonplace and only a few individuals would know how to do that. I, personally, develop code and not content..and have no idea how to go about doing it. EDIT: I meant to come back to this thread..but, forgot all about it... |
