booted at login
Can't log in to any server on the list. Not p99, not ez server. Restarted router and modem, re-installed. It's not just my computer, it's my GF's too. I think it's IP related. Please help. I get booted to login screen before it even loads the characters.
Doubtful it's your ip if it happens with multiple servers.
What client are you using? Also, the p99 files are incompatible with every other eqemu server, they use unique files to their server. |
Ty Toony. I just used a VPN and can log in just fine. This affects my computer and my GF's. Neither of us can log in regularly. I don't want to play on a VPN. I just found it interesting that the VPN works. This is clearly IP related
I'm using Titanium for p99 and I think underfoot or something for EZ server. I followed the instructions and had no problems connecting until yesterday.
Could be a bad route. May have to continue usin a VPN and try back in a few days and see if it's fixed. You can try a traceroute to the login server with your regular IP but regular traceroutes are pretty commonly blocked now by ISPs.
I tried /flushdns and no luck. VPN still works. Been playing since 2012 and never had this problem.
You might have a rogue admin on your hands. Someone with access and wants to deny people they run into ingame and get mad at. There is zero reason my ip should be banned. It never was before, but it is now. Maybe this is an ip exemption problem, but I already asked someone in p99 who I know has an exemption, so I ruled that out. There is very little to suggest it isn't the work of someone who wanted to flex their peen.

If you are reading this, talk to me. I won't expose you. I know what it feels like to be an outcast. I just don't get why you would do this to me. There is no other explanation. Just talk to me, please.
Of course you can't talk here. and I don't want to make a fake email address. Just stop.
You're definitely over reacting here. If you can't use ANY server without a VPN, it's a routing issue that you just have to wait to get resolved. It happens. If you can't connect specifically to P99 without a VPN, you're likely banned. If you were banned banned by an EQEmu administrator I don't see why you'd even be able to log in.
If this is a temporary ban I will update when I can log back in. There is no reason for it, whatsoever though
I've played for 10 years and never had this issue
How is it a routing issue if my using a VPN fixes it? Because it is routed from an address that isn't blocked?
Why does it affect Eva's computer too? It's obviously an IP block. Can you explain why multiple computers would be blocked but as soon as I hide my IP with vpn it all of a sudden works...
My opinion is an eqemu admin, or someone with equivalent access, banned me and didn't even make a ticket.
Maybe it was a bot
Give me one answer please
Because of exactly that. Both computers are the same external IPs and would take the same route. A VPN would be an entirely different route unless it was within the first couple hops. There's like a .00001% chance you got globally banned unless you die something absolutely outrageous. Calm down, take a break.
So you are saying one device should work then. But they both don't work.
I shouldn't have to wait this out
It shouldn't affect me and eva at the same time. This is complete bullshit.
Whelp, you're beyond help and don't listen. Maybe a break is a good for you.

I am here, available, call me. Don't hide and act like this is my problem. Don't pretend this is a networking issue. That has been debunked. TALK TO ME
this doesn't happen, because i've had multiple accounts for 10 years, so hundreds of years of accounts, never with this problem. if i need to wait it out, then there is a reason why
There is no global ban function, every server is run by individuals and they all have their own infrastructure and ban lists/system. So far the only common denominator is your local isp. If using a vpn works then it proves it’s an issue with your local isps route as a vpn has all traffic being redirected through their systems and routes.
There is no rogue eqemu admin and there is no global bans. |
So you predict this will clear up in a few days? I've already reset routers, re-installed, and flushed dns. You say this is going to clear up soon?
It's not my ISP...
It's so simple. the IP was blocked.
Dude, you have two people telling you the exact same thing. Get over yourself and accept that it's out of your control and you have a temporary work around for the meantime. You're not banned. Take. A. Break.
Dude, you say re-install and take a break
I've re-installed...why would time fix it if it wasn't broken...what is the step you accuse me of missing, exactly?
Thank you for trying to help me during my belligerent bender. I agree, it might be a good time to take a break.

Figured I would give a "polite" note about the login process, before the reservoir dogs climb in and start chewing your ankles off. ;)

FACT: There are many different reasons this can happen, but the most common one is not getting through on that port. (You can see tons of this issue posted all over these forums) Sometimes it can be simple, sometimes not. In one case scenario (documented on these forums), a random Win 10 update started taking up port 9001, wreaking havoc for EQ clients. In other case scenarios, it was a router or a cable modem, firewall, or an ISP issue. Many, many different reasons, but troubleshooting, is the pain in the ass, especially when one doesn't understand why it just happened for no reason. First thing someone might want to do, is looking at the client log file. First, if you go into your Everquest client folder, in logs folder is a file called dbg.txt. Delete it. Then log your client on, replicating the issue, but the moment it gets kicked back, stop there and look at the newly generated (dbg.txt) log file. It will usually show an error of not being able to log into the world. (example-"Failed to authenticate world .....etc, etc). As far as your issue, with a vpn "quick fix", does not imply the worst. You problem is not something new. Unfortunately, topics on these forums get buried over the years and it can be difficult to search for answers. Even worse, someone will post a problem and indicate that it was fixed, without letting everyone else know what the solution was. |
Thank you, I will spend time this weekend doing what you suggested. I will post an update and hopefully can manage to resolve this. The timing of it all really got to me. I have so much time invested, I think i started seeing ghosts lol, and needed a reality check. Thanks again.
This is resolved...thank you for the help.
I checked the log file, and the attempts made without the vpn would be rejected at trying to communicate with the world. Also, wow, I had no idea how much is exchanged in the login process. Fascinating, with so much going on under the hood. I just had to update my router firmware. That's it. After all this time playing, and on a random night I blacked out, it just only seemed like it was much worse than it is. It has been a while since I made a router firmware update. Maybe some bad data was cleared out. I don't think that would have changed my IP either, though after going through this trial and error I'll take better notes next time... Wish I knew exactly why it worked, for curiosity's sake, but I'll take it! |
