DDoS Attacks against our servers
 

Recently (In the last 3 days), We have seen numerous attacks against our web and other servers. I beg the person or persons responsible to stop doing this. You might think it makes you cool, but it is much like buying a sports car for men, and just shows how small your penis really is.

I feel your pain but, telling these guys how much it bugs you just makes them do it more. Thats the whole point. Ignore em and report the traffic to your ISP or provider.

How about this, you are DoS attacking a project that gives you the ability to play a game for free instead of having to pay $12.95 a month, people who spend their own money and time for their enjoyment and others benefits, you should be attacking the Sony EQ Webpage, not the EverQuest Emulator webpage.

Everyone here has a social life, if no one here had EQemu would be better than EQ but since everyone here does have a social life outside of our DoS screens (unlike some). Well you get my drift. At the peak of the traffic, we were receiving 180mbit of syn type packets. Our uplink decided to null route our subnet at their uplinks because of this.

I will also be adding a new rule to the message boards terms of services. Any "EQEMu Unfriendly" posts will be charged a $250 administrative fee. Dont forget, I do get your real IP addresses on the posts, and most of the time, that is all I need to get your real information (see http://www.cyberjunky.net/hogieown.log for info)

One way that they can charge you, is by taking legal actions and have a lawsuite against you. The judge in court would decide if the terms qualify and then determine if the offender(s) have to be punished. Then, there is a degree that the offender(s) can be punished.

The other way, is very much different, they'd have to make available, a notice that you have to pay to access, or to have possession of, or to gain possession of the product, service or otherwise. This one, does not involve any lawsuites or court. Basically, more or less what I am saying here is, like going to a site, to purcahse a server, it would have a page saying:

Purchase EQEmu Server (32 user license) for $29.95
Purchase EQEmu Server (64 user license) for $39.95
Purchase EQEmu Server (128 user license) for $129.95

And such, so you don't get roped in to anything, and they cannot be sued thereafter for unauthorized sales, etc. But for malicious activities, such as DoS (Denial of Service) attacks, Ping attacks, and other forms of malicious activities, they can, and warrant the rights to block, remove, revoke, or modify access to the offender(s), and also, to press charges and have every right to procescute the said offender(s) to the maximum extent allowed by law. Now I know, the law in each state may vary, and some do vary from one to the next, and then there is a "typical bylaw" that is the same for every state. The only thing that I can and will suggest, for additional information is to contact a lawyer that deals in this area so you know what your rights are.

The EQEmu Server project does reserve the right to press charges on the offenders, provided it is their own servers, however. Now if it is not their servers, I believe they can still press charges for theft of content, services and such, but at another degree, the companies and/or individuals hosting the content, services, and such on their own servers, can as well, press charges, too! Then you'd have a double whamy from the hosting provider, and the people that are making the content, products, and services available. Know what I mean?

They are not saying they will charge for it. He is saying they -could- charge for it if they wanted.

The terms are there for dumbasses that do stupid crap like this. EQEMu is ran off Donations. We want to keep it that way. But we dont want ppl DoSing the servers so no one can enjoy the free service that is given out here. Fun is defined as "Enjoyment that does not inflicnon enjoyment of others." Think about it, IF you did a DoS on sony they would not Double bill ya. They would take your lame ass to court and charge you For all the lost time and money. that means 20k accounts X $12.95 plue Legal Fees. Think about that before you pull a stupid stunt. If i was Hogie i would add something like that to my Terms of Service.
