User Cleanup #2
We are going to purge the databases again of stale users. Anybody that is not active (did not activate their account), or has no posts made will be deleted. Please Post atleast once and a while so you are not deleted. I plan on running the delete script on Friday around 6pm (US Central), so please post by then if you are just a player.

Sounds good. If you post in offtopic, just reply to the same thread, so we can delete it once the purges are done. DO NOT CREATE A MILLION TOPICS THAT SAY 'BUMP'. Use one thread, or we'll purge you anyway out of pure spite !!!

Can't we tie this to the loginserver somehow so that it also will not purge those that logged in in the las 30 days or something? That way the minimum of 1 post would be unneeded.

it would be much better to have it with the loginserver instead of the forums, because yes people should leave feedback but alot of people just want to play

This is a great idea. Nonusers would.... ummm.... slow it all down and use unwanted space server side. I also blame my low-post rate on school being in. Now that I am free, and have no life, I plan to post. Lets hope there are some good topics in the "off topic" section. Seen some really good debates there! =-D |

Some ppl just want to play in peace without having to post on the forums lest our account get deleted, as has already been asked, why dosnt loging in to the login server refesh your account? Theres gonna be a lot of confused ppl who loose their accounts purely because they dont post on the forums. I understand the need for deleting un-used accounts but why delete ppl's EQ account just because they dont post on the forums?

Userbase purge for server overhead, sql db cleanup for speed, software is still in aplha... i can think of millions of reasons.

Well, ,the reason we dont have it update from the logins is because the login servers only have read access to the tables & columns they need (We do this for security). Each login has a different database login with the same rights, except for the login server that writes to the stats table.
I have noticed that if the logins do get disconnected from the mysql server for any reason (it be network congestion or whatever), they wont turn back into write mode (a good example of this is when the stats login gets disconnected from the main mysql server for any reason. It wont update stats until it is bounced). Would you guys rather have it done in an automated way? (it might cause us to have to restart logins more than they get restarted now, which means server lists out of sync for a few moments sometimes). |
