Hackerquest is doing well i see
Just wanted to tell u all that dont have the patients to wait to go check out some stuff hackerquest is doing right now. :D no offense to the EQEmu team they doing great also!! (keep up the good work can't wait to see the next release) http://www.hackersquest.com/boards/v...light=commands just thought u would like to check out what they have done. Mobs spawn but its still a bit messy there  but the item database is great u can log on and check it out. I just wanted to let u all know. If u cant stand waiting. Not much to do on it but its something!!!
|
Theirs requires to much work to even play, I would rather wait for eqemu :)
|
Lol you cant even download it i get a 404 error evertime time try to download it
as of me downloading it i wanted to see how well they got the NPCs working |
I like to try but I find there guide little confusing hehe.
|
HQ is pretty good for being closed sorce but, its way behind where EQEMU is. IMO its not even worth downloading.
|
Hackers quest is a joke. I mean, they've done some decent stuff, but there is no support, meaning that if you have a tecnical problem, you get chewed out for being an idiot and a newb and possibly banned. Not to mention the fact that its closed source, the zones (if I remember right) are located all on the same comp (cant host zones on seperate servers, bad for big servers!). Just various things that have impressed me very much about EQEMU that HQ has not even tried to live up to.
Just my opinion, sorry if it's a little extreme. |
HMMM.....
Haven't checked it out in quite awhile?? It has the ability to host Login , World , and Zone servers on seperate machines. It also is no longer closed source , all work from here on is C++ , not ruby anymore , all additions are made with individual DLLs. I'd give him credit for bringing it this far , it's actually looking promising. |
Really? Maybe I just remembered wrong. But, yea, even getting that far is quite impressive, I'm just saying that the attitude of the people behind the project is sketchy at best, and it reflects in the usability of the program.
|
It was a one man show for a long time.
Went open source several months ago. Zordon was the only coder I knew of , and he rarely made any appearances. |
Really? Obviously my information is just skewed, I'm going to shut up. I lurked on their forums, and they were not nearly as friendly as these.
|
Friendly??? not long ago every newbie who asked for the patcher was flamed, and if i remember right some are banned.
Hackerquest is a simple zipfile which comes with a integrated Database so no SQL is needed. simply unzip, copy one file into everquest and it works. and finally it works with the current version of everquest. Thats a lot more than this emu does... |
no
no...hackersquest is too much for some people to set up...on here all you gotta do is change your eqhost file and log on
|
same there only copy the eqhost file.
if you read the problems there, these are guys who have the game here, and the emu there, and so on. Hackerquest is only the Serversoftware, Eqemu has its own server, thats the different. and i believe that is much easier too make your own server with hackersquest than with EQemu. |
...
i think both emus have there plus sides and down sides...its more to what you prefer depending on which emu you play on...
|
yeah, but if i read the upper posts....i bet no one of these guys even tryed the server.
"the attitude of the people behind the project is sketchy at best, and it reflects in the usability of the program." if i read something like that i want to turn in the Hulk and smash something. i mean his programm work, and other don |

Dev version on cvs i can log in on. walk arround. woohoo look it does all that hackersquest does! EQEMU does alot that the HQ eqemu cant do. Pets/quests/refined combat/mobs that cast spells/roaming mobs/mobs that summon, enrage, flurry ect I could go on but why bother. if you think about it eqemu will always take longer to update because we have more feature sets that need to be fixed.[/quote] |
El_Labero, you are the one sturring up a shitstorm.
|
@mangoo ohh now you are attacking me personally?
in other "friendly" forums you would get banned now... @/dev/n00b you are right, but what i want to say is that Hackersquest didn |
Somebody call Merth : P
|
El_Labero you were the one who first went away from the topic to flame the people posting, and made snide remarks. then acuse Mangoo of attacking you, are you just an idiot or what?
|
>> "El_Labero, you are the one sturring up a shitstorm."
How is that a personal attack? /boggle |
You cant do shit on the HQ server atm. At least I can get on though. ><
|
I'm not saying that at all. I'm simply saying that the attitude of the people reflects in the general support behind the program, thus in any given situation where one has a problem, it affects the usability of the program.
As for the newbies asking for the patcher, it WAS IN THE FAQ, AND there were archived posts to see, so there is really no excuse besides ignorance, and ignorance of the law doesnt make innocence. Hackersquest, as is unfortunately determined by its nondatabase approach, is limited in the scalability it is allowed. Unless anyone is suggesting that databases are innefficient? EQEmu has a far larger feature set, and it's tackled a wider base of issues than hackersquest. HQ has simply made the most minimal things work, then built up from that. While this means that it's easier for them to tackle issues like EQLive patches, it also means that they do not have the raw features that EQEMU has. EQEMU, on the other hand, has built up a large feature set at the cost of immediate compatibility with live. Honestly, do you really have to ask which is preferable? I said I'd shut the hell up cause I didnt know what I was talking about, but I didnt figure on getting flamed AFTER I said that. |
Suran , Your post is the most informitive post in this thread, it hit the issues right on, with the reasons why. Most of us saw this conversation a few times already since it arises about 1-2 times a month and just didnt feel like going into detail for people who cant figure out how to read the forums, good job.

what he say'd
|
 well once you get a server going on eqemu you will say that hackersquest suxs. We have more control over the items, zones npcs then they do.also it not that hard to set up out servers
|
Thats a disturbing avatar there pal

LOL i started the eq emulator search 1.5+years ago, ran across HQ and played with it. followed the project until 31 Dec 2001. The post of "happy new year!" stayed there until the last time i checked on it, one weekago. Now the site isnt even up. Long story short i shifted over to EQemu and had a blast playing free EQ again. A little buggy through the .3's but hey, at least the game had some tech support. Saying that "once you get the servers up" is a silly statement due simply to the fact that the login servers had nearly 95% uptime till Aug. 26 or 27 or so. This whole "my server is bigger than your server" and "my mobs can beat up your mobs" is about the maturity level of a 12 year old. And so is comming to another emu site advritizing for a different emu is also just bad form. if HQ ends up being a better EMU that EQEMU, power to ya. I have tried both and right now, i like the EQEMU setup way better. Thats my opinion, thats also my right to have my opinion. Flame me all you want, although i havent flamed anyone, but go ahead. :) When i get flamed i just consider the source and it then means nothing. Good job EQEMU dev's, u guys rock. keep it up. </LOGIC></MATURITY> |
Let me translate.
EQEmu = Vanilla Pepsi HackersQuest = Vanilla Coke Big bling mobile, or piece of junk truck? :P |
