Ever wondered why people want Non-Legit servers ?
 

I can only say why i want it, when i want to play on a legit server i play on the live servers . There more than 5% of the zones are actually populated and im not restricted to melee classes for leveling.

I've played with EQEmu on and off for 8-9 months and the most fun i've had on EQEmu was running around in the elemental zones i hadnt yet been, checking out the zone layouts and new mobs (creating npc, change model and so on ...).

Im not saying all servers should allow that kind of playing around and im definitely not saying people should start with GM-status.
But in the interest of attracting more players to test EQEmu i believe theres a need for "non legit" servers as well.

If i we're to play on a "legit" server to level a toon, it would have to offer something different from live servers. Like a redesigned fully populated version of VexThal with lvl 20 mobs or Qeynos invaded by lvl 60+ gnolls.

Until then, wish me luck on setting up my own 0.5.0 server =P

I think a non-legit server could be handy in troubleshooting bugs just because players would have an opportunity to do more thorough testing.

Its the server owners choice.. Why dont you create one? Whats the issue here, I really don't understand what you're whining about...


People can make legit or non legit servers... If you don't like what someone else has made, feel free to make one yourself...

Yeah, really. Everything is available to you and it doesn't take too much effort to start up your own server, whether you want it to be public access or just for you to run around in.

You need to encourage people who are willing to set up a Non-Legit server, or set up a quicky yourself, not attribute the lack of them to the project itself. The beauty of EQEmu is that it allows you to make your own world with your own rules, why not take advantage of that? :P

Nice post, you really captured why those who host the non-legit servers should keep them going. Nevermind what these other people say.

(Not really sure how you see this post as whining, he was considerate and well planed with his words, no complaining, just his opinion... and he did say he planned on making a server)

'Legit' servers don't make sense in the current state of the EQEmu.

Legit servers are pointless when all the Live quests are not working, and the monsters drops are not right either.

Semi-legit servers are fun because you can twink yourself with all sorts of items you would never find on the live servers, yet you still have to level up and work on the skills.

I think server owners trying to get more players with GM events and such are wasting their time. Come on, do you seriously think you're going to do a better job than the people paid at Verant in generating all the content for the zones ? There's not even 100 people logged in ! And you people are talking about GM's , forum support etc.

Make a good server, solid, with a good database. and populated mid level and high level zones.

Make it so that nameds spawn and drop all the nice NO DROP stuff.

Tag all the NO DROP stuff to be non summonable.

Then you have a server where partying is actually worthwhile, where killing high level mobs is actually worthwhile, since all the NO DROP stuff is generally the best.

Thank you for your review on the benefits of semilegitimate servers. If you should host one, I'm sure people would join it.

Quick point: There have been 100 players on a single server. It's possible. We won't have 2000 on a single server. It would take gigs upon gigs of RAM and a serious pipeline to handle. Aiming to please 20 people at a time is a good aim. Let's not aim to conquer SOE. I don't know anyone with enough cash to host that kind of server all the time.

We're small-time people on a small-time project with small-time dreams. Until we hit the big-time, it's nice to have a little pet project. I doubt everyone is hosting a forum because it's necessary. I think many are hosting it to see what they're capable of. Basically, it's all for fun.

I've always wanted to create my own MMORPG, but thats pretty much impossible to do for one guy. But my server is like my own MMORPG, I get to change how it plays and control everything that goes on in it, letting everybody skip straight to 65 would ruin this for me, because then I feel like the people playing on my server have just as much control over the world as I do. :)

Hey, who cares if we have to level again, eqemu is free, eqlive cost money... My account on eqlive jsut ended and i am happy to still have something to play with :P

i wanna make my own non-legit server but to tell you the truth im not that great with computer software so i can't! im hoping someone will make an all GM server so that i can do everything a GM can do.

i understand what u mean about your account expiring so yeah i think there should still be some legit servers but for the people who actually have EQ live im sure they would rather have all GM servers

That server ruled, was legit and every single bit of it was custom... includeing the QUESTS(which were awesome needing all the parts for armor etc.) mob drops, mobs etc. Only thing used were the zones. I liked haveing Thurg connecting to CC :D That server was the complete unkown. And now Teknet is doing the same.

Please bring it back Wiz :cry: I know you had big problems, but servers like yours are extremely rare. And loved by the people who played on em.

Problem with semi-legit/non-legit is its the same thing on every server with a different name. There is only so much you can do untill the point comes to where you grow bored, and then you go in search for something different. Thats where servers like Guild wars and Winters Roar came in, it was that sense of the unknown and makes you stay, which is what this community needs. Of Course this is all just my opion.

There will always be a need for legit/ non-legit/ blah blah blah, its for the maker to decide and that is the beauty of EQEmu.

EQEmu.........you create, shape it, make it, and build it to your will, and its your choice, hell, I created a server on EQEmu privately to see what it was like to make it past lvl 28 on a EQlive barbarian rogue...Spent 1 year getting it up...

Most legit servers do SUCK here. But Guildwar's, the best server on EMU...is legit :wink:
