My patching dilema
I have a question and maybe someone could help me out. I've recently reinstalled my entire computer, reformatted and started from scratch. I can install EQ just fine but there is something wrong with the patcher. I tried to patch EQ TRILOGY when i installed it but it wouldn't get past that old original patcher eq had, the play online button would become available and if i hit it the patcher would close and nothing would be said.
So i said okay, ill just install original EQ which i also have on a cd by itself. I do this, and i get farther. I go through the patcher and it says: patcher was updated please rerun everquest.exe. which i do, and i can patch for a little bit and it downloads some of that good stuff but then it shoots up this error: "Could not create DC at W32STI_CalcFont(): Error 0" Now i have been playing eq for a while now and i have never come across this error, and what makes me wonder even more is that i actually download some things off the patcher before this error pops. Ill try to watch the patcher to see what file is making it do this but, i was just wondering if anyone had experienced something similar. I would have posted it to some EQ help site but... i haven't played EQlive in so long... ~Dan Addendum: I've noticed 2 things as well which i forgot to mention. When i get this error EverQuest.exe hangs. It is still considered up cause it shows it when i hit "ctrl + alt + delete". In addition i have noticed that my AIM gets alittle frozen as well. All the buttons turn black like and i cant open new see text in new windows. (kind of like when an IE window freezes and if you shrink it and maximize it again it will be all white) ~Dan |
Sounds like Windows is running out of graphics resources. I searched for your error over at EQLive and they suggest the following (which seems to have worked for some people, judging by the replies):
1) Make sure your motherboard drivers are up to date. 2) End task on all background programs and goto Trend Micro's Site and click on SCAN NOW and run a complete scan on your entire pc. 3) Windows Updates from www.Microsoft.com 4) Reinstall DirectX 5) Reinstall your Video Card Driver Might be worth upgrading/downgrading your video card driver first. |

1) didnt try it yet 2) Did that, found 1 virus, dumped it, tried to patch, same error. 3) Updated everything i could and it seems the patcher is working fine so far. 4) Downloaded 9.0b, installed it and patcher still has error. 5) Re-Downloaded the driver for my card and os, didnt install yet ~Dan In addition: Since i updated all my windows stuff i have noticed that i can gain some headway into patching before it causes the error, i can download so much then it errors, but i can restart it and pick up from where i left off... ill see what happens when i download all of the stuff, i have about an hour to go. wish me luck ~Dan |
Option 4/5 seem to fix 90% of graphics errors.
