At a loss.. Behind a router/NAT.. cannot connect to servers

Basically I get to the server list, click on a server, click play, and it sends me back to the desktop for a bit, then appears to restart the game. No idea why. Did a quick look around the forum, didn't find much..

Are you able co connect to live( if you have an account)? Have you read the sections in the forums covering Firewalls ect? What kind of internet connection do you have(dial up, cable ect)? what OS are you using? What have you done to try to fix this issue?

Give us any info you can, we need info if you want help. 8)

Alright, I've dialed up to the internet without the router (Yes, I use a router that supports dialup) and I can connect just fine. With the router, it does what I said in my first post.

Router is SMC 7004ABR

I have an account, and am able to get to the zonelist while behind a router.

I've read through these forums and found some posts, but nothing that helped me. I have not read the section covering firewalls.

Go to the tutorials section and read the NAT guide. It's the last of the stickied guides.

If you are useing nat and behind the router make sure the ports are opened up to conenect. i know I had to open my ports up before I was able to connect to live servers, didnt have to do anything for eqemu =)

a_Guest03 12-03-2003 08:11 AM

I had the same experience, Conan. I was disconnected from eqlive every 10 minutes until I changed the router.

Also there definetly still seams to be an issue with people who try to use EQEMU with dial up. I saw and talked to at least a dozen people today who cant connect / cant stay connected and they all use dial up. so you may just need to wait for the Devs to get everything more stable.

I dont realy know what a NAT or router is but i cant connect either and i am on dial up also.

NAT.. Hmmm Trouble from the start

Here is the deal with the 10 min thing..

Your router that you are using has a problem with its Arp Cache. This has been addressed in most routers spcifically Linksys. which i am guessing that you are using.. Most probably with SBC (or some derivitive of) DSL. If you are please go and upgrade your code for the router.. it comes with the TFT program to get your code (firmware) upgrade to your router..

Second.. You may want to open up the ports section on your router. Ie Port forwarding. open up 1000 to 9000. this will open more then you need but hell it will do the trick to get you started.. NOTE: Yes you are behind a router using a local subnet on your local lan. Most Hackers will not bother with you as you really dont have anything they want.. so the ports being opened is not a prob.

Third.. If you are running a sever there should be a section in the Advanced portion of your setup that will be called DMZ host. This will allow one of your PC's on your LOCAL LAN to be in the DMZ. this will open him up to the world.. I suggest you have NA or some other Antivirus program up to date and it be a pretty strong PC. with lots of RAM.

Finally .. Relax and have fun .. Its only a Free Version of EQ, The most widely played MMORPG on the Planet.

HAHAHAHAH

You should not need to open up any ports to be able to play on an EMU server. To host one yes (port 9000 for world and then what ever ports you run your zones on).

Upgrading the firmware on your Router is never a bad idea (unless you mess up and use the wrong firmware).

Wrong. Not even close. In North America maybe.

IADarkScythe 12-06-2003 04:32 AM

what is the most played MMORPG then?

Lasiel 12-06-2003 04:56 AM

Can't recall the name of the MMOG, but I know it's based in asia and if recollection serves correct they have over a million subscribers.

Sorry to keep bothering you arkaria, but what i gave him is something that works well for me.. I did say that this was over kill on the ports but since he is doing NAT anyway.. well you can go back and read. I dont profess to know everything, Just offering help. Thought that was what these forums are for.. to help the people that are asking for it.. Sorry for being a bit pissy but just seems that the last few posts i posted to help, got shot down with somewhat of a rude comment.

Well see ya when the cows come home.
