Zones Never Created

This is not counting Luclin. So thats pretty much 30 zones they never created. And they are making another expansion already. (Source: The Official EQ VI maps that came with game)

Lake of Dismog
Dragons Drool
The Buried Sea
Broken Skull Rock
Gulf of Gunthak
Rujarkian Hills
Greenblood River
Serpent's Spine
Lifire River
Winters Deep
Lake Neriuss
The Frigid Plain
The Northlands
The Hatchland
Scars of Veeshan (im not sure on this one sense its name is pretty close to the expansion name <Scars of Velious>
The Icy FIngers
Grele Spaiga
Ry`Gorr Keep
The Vasty Deep
Gulf of Uzun
Abysmal Sea
The Barren Coast
The Grand Plateau
Dragonscale Hills
Elizerain Lake
Wayunder Lake
The Topping Plain
Ranthok's Ridge
Hill's of Shadow
Oh yea. I remember. I was looking at when they started it up and what they've added. Stonebrunt... the hole... paineel.. umm thats all i remember. Good job you've started Odus VI and you haven't even finished it within 3 years. You still got The Vasty Deep. The Barren Coast, Gulf of Uzun and Abysmal Sea. Oops and The Grand Plateau. What'ch put there? Pretty kittie cats that hit for 3000 dmg and death touch? Oops I also forgot. Rawhide drops w00t

Not too smart, are they? ;\ Bastages.

You also forgot Vekis, the underwater dungeon in Loio. The big dome under the lake? that's it, THe bloodgill marauder spawns at what would be the zone entrance, but alas, not finished!

I'll actually give them a bit of credit. Some of the names on the maps are in the game, but they're not so much zones themselves as they are landmarks. A few that you listed are such. The Icy Fingers is the line of icebergs in the Iceclag Ocean that the gnome ship travels through. The Frigid Plain is supposed to be the snow plain part of EverFrost between the mountainous valley area and Permafrost. The Scars of Veeshan are mostly in Western Wastes (Temple of Veeshan Chasm is one, Dragon Necropolis is another, don't know of third) .. Ry`Gorr Keep is the small orc fort in East wastes where entrance to Crystal Caverns is. Dragon's Drool is the lake you find in Trakanon's Teeth... hrm...

I think that is it.

There are still plenty of things they could add. :) But some things are actually already there. :)

Conclusion: VI should make concept maps, create game, then redo map to accomodate game.. not send us the concept map and show us what they thought expendable. :)

Sometimes, when you look at a fantasy book, you'll find a map inside. Read the book, and you'll find that the auther doesn't necesarrily visit every place on the map.

The reason why the maps have so many places on them that aren't in game is the simple fact that when it comes to Roleplaying games, fantasy novels, and generally, anything involving storyline, it's a good idea to flesh things out. This is a roleplaying game, remember? I don't know every quest in game, but some quests might make mention of someplace that isn't yet actually in game. Lore and such. Lore is one of EverQuest's strong points.

Beyond that, the world of Norrath isn't just about EverQuest. If I'm not mistaken, the dev team used to roleplay in the world of Norrath. It's not so much a concept map as it is probably the map they used.

So what if they didn't have the manpower and time to create a lot of these zones. I think most of you have no idea what it takes to create a game like EverQuest. It's a huge effort, and with people criticizing every little thing they do, it's not easy to please the masses.

Not to mention, like they said above, a lot of those things listed are more Landmarks than things that would be actual zones.

Basicly? Get over it, new content is new content, just because there are places listed on the map you can't get to doesn't mean they just have to fill out those holes first.

I am afraid I have to dissagree with you Ryozo.

<hunts for soapbox, finds it ... stands on it>

When you sell an item to a customer there is a reasonable expectation by the customer that s/he is getting a complete product.

If the hype was for 100 "zones" or distinct areas the to provide only 50 and then add a further 50 but call them upgrades and charge extra for them would in the UK probably constitute ufair trade practices.

It is a sorry reflection on the largest consumer nation in the world that the laws of its great and good can be twisted and despoiled by corporate policy in such a way that this kind of selling practice can be achieved not once by a small games company ... but over and over again by one of the world largest multi national corporations (no names no pack drill)

<gets off soapbox, hides it again>

(phew got that off my chest)

Hmm..

Are you saying that EQ was not a complete product?

I must misunderstand what their additional promises were with the release of the game, but I dont remember official promises of , get these zones, then get 50 more FREE! They said they would expand, which they did. The only area that I would bash them in is in customer support, and to be honest with you, they are probably on par with support with most every software company/service ive ever seen. (Except for Sun Microsystems whose has one of the best support plans Ive ever seen, but you pay big bucks for it)

I do find it very admiriable that they released 3 full new continents of zones for the price of the box , (Kunark was 29 i think , Vel, 19) , and never rasied the monthly price of the game despite the fact that they nearly doubled the number of active servers (yes, I know more servers means more money via higher overall populations, but still that requires alot of money in infrastructure support and up front capital to subsizdize)

Lets give credit where credit is due. Overall, considering the complexity of the project, and the vast amount of computing power and bandwidth necessary to run it, I think its a very rich environment at a reasonable price. Yes, there are zones they planned on putting in that they never did, but I think they more than made up for it in other areas.. I remember SAS, widely considered to be one of the best software companies on the planet, having trouble hitting their release dates, and including everything their promotions people had promised.

Thats life, it happens, move on.. A company is not one person making a pact. It is a bunch of different people, who dont always comunicate well with one another, with different understandings, and assesments of the situations.

Hmm 04-12-2002 11:17 AM

eh it works thats all i can say. everquest is 3 years old and alive.

everything ends but everquest wont for year or 2 or even 3.
