Noob Question about types of server

Basicaly i was wondering if any servers out there are open PvP. Personaly if i wanted to just PvE all the time than i would join EQ live again, and recently a very fun DAOC Shard closed down so i am turning here for more entertaining times.

Anyway to pose the question again, are there any Open PvP servers or at least PvP orriented servers up?

Thanks for any help in advance

As long as you don't have dial up....

I hate rural life and can't wait for the high speed wifi access at the college I will be going to.

Just make sure they don't have a firewall that doesn't allow access to games.

I stepped right into that one, never knew about it until I moved into the dorm, setup my computer and couldn't log into EQ. Took me a while to figure out why, sigh...

3 years, 6 months later and I find out about this EQ server emulator, 6 months more, and I am free again...

Rather lame.

Well I am thinking of majoring in Computer Sciences and where I am going that gives me physical access to the campus internet servers.

If they do have that firewall bit and I can't get around it, I'll just use my personal Cox cable line that goes in all dorms and buy my own internet access. Wifi isn't THAT important to me....and no matter all the complaints I hear about them its better than dail up....

Sounds like a plan, hope it works out for you. I tried to get DSL into my room 3-4 times, but they wouldn't go for it. :(

Way to far out in the country to even consider getting DSL or cable. Got to wait for another 1000 years for the place i live at to catch up to the rest of socity.

Well then you let it catch up to the rural areas. There are two interesting rural broadband choices under development.

1) A Wifi network base at all public schools with a range of 10 miles. Idea is that if you are not within 10 miles of a public school you don't even know what the internet is. It had lots of government interest and funding but now it seems to be losing steam to alternative #2.....

2) Broadband via powerlines. No range. No expensive equipment on the client side. And works at speeds better than DSL/Cable. If you have an outlet and you know your electric company supports it, you have broadband access. This is not as far off as it sounds, with a live test passed with flying colors in the northwest and FCC approval only a couple of days ago. The catch? The electric company has to change out your transformer (possibly all transformers in region, not sure) for it to work, so its not like they can just flip a switch and *poof* X-boxLive.

Ya brodband would be nice no longer having to dial up.
Have you heard about the Internet2 Project some collages are working on. They set a data speed record with 6.2gigs sent and receved in one second. Nice to play a FPS on that. Now granted it wont be that fast when you have 10million+ users connected to it, but the avrage brodband would probably 2x or 3x there download and upload speeds.
