Having server issues... sorta
 

I have <after much reading on this forum> gotten my server up and running, and it shows up in the list and everything like that.. The problem I am having, is that it is locked. It is NOT locked in the loginserver.ini as follows

I have not been able to find it posted on the forums under search, though I am sure it has been asked before, so before you hammer me get a small hammer to do it please hehe..... Otherwise, as I said, everything seems to be running ok.

Don't think I have seen this answered in the forums either, but I believe that if no zone servers are connected to your world server than it will show as locked.

And that is the purpose of the load3zones.bat file yes? If so I have those loaded and running just fine, though they are sleeping at the moment...

Ok this is an update to my original question. I notice that it still IS locked, but when the zone windows, "go to sleep" then the server shows as unlocked... however I am still having problems, I cant login to the character screen. It boots me back to the connection, option, etc, screen... but I did copy the message I got from world.exe and will paste it here.

I am not sure what this means. Could someone be so kind as to help a fairly new person out on this. I will continue to peruse the forum trying to find this problem <though i havent found it yet>.

I am also aware of this post, and I have read it. Before you yell at me please understand, I HAVE read all those things, and I am just not seeing it.... If you could <if nothing else> post a link to a working solution, I would be MOST greatful.... TIA

You have a DB issue, your DB is NOT compadable with the version of EQEMU you are running. Check what others were told to do to fix this error.

Actually you are incorrect. The db file is what came in the version of EqEmu I am running. Though I DID find why I am having problems with connecting <the error loading items is probably due to the same thing>, and that is that I am running 0.5.2, and not 0.5.3, and I have read that it is not compatible any longer.

I am not trying to be a jerk and REALLY dont want to get flamed for this, but there is a reason that there are so many re-posts on the same issue. Yes, some people are too lazy to read the forums or do a search. I have done all of these. The problem is, less the people I just mentioned, is there are way too many outdated guides and tips that lead a person in circles. Put yourself in a newbie frame of mind..If you are lost, but want to learn, and thereby be up on what is going on so you can contribute to the project in any way possible, you dont want to search for something, then try it, and find out it is totally out of date or most of the procedures dont fit any more. This is what happened to me. I DID manage to set up my server with NO help <to this point> with the guides, but I had to "bit and piece" most of them together, because NONE of them are "step-by-step", correct as of today..... Sorry for running on, but I just dont want to get flamed <yes I realize some people deserve it> for trying to learn something new. You all do an awesome job on the project.

As to my problem, I have moved on from what my post was to a new problem. Matter of fact I was on my way back to this post to edit it to reflect the new info I have, when you had already posted on it. .... The new problem is I found the new copy of eqemu, but it is in source and I do not know how to compile it. I have tried using part of a guide that shows how to compile cvs and tried to use common sense, but it is not working to my likeing... Could you direct me to a link or tell me how to either compile the source or let me know if there is a eqemu 0.5.3 binary somewhere? I could not find either in search.. 0.5.2 is the newest listed on sourceforge.net and just happened by the link to the 0.5.3 source on the forums <is not posted anywhere on the eqemulator.net site that I saw>.....

and that error IS because of what i stated, the DB isnt compadable with your binaries. The connecting error is somthing entirly diferent. In which I think you found out what was causing that.

So you actualy have 2 errors not just 1 to deal with.

Samandhi, you could also download the newest DB, heres the link to MW, i had the same big error from the server not being able to locate any items in the MYSQL db. Souce this in ( it takes a fairly long while since its full of movving mobs and all the items ect.)
and your problem should be cleared up!

Thank you all for your help and Matt for your patience. I now have it up and running without a hitch... havent explored yet to find out what crashes I will have but I can at least log on and create a char and then enter world... went to 3 zones <by foot> and so far so good...... Thank you.. Im going to dabble a bit and try and figure out how to do some more crap <read try and learn some more>. When i feel I have a grasp on a tidbit of info, I will try and give back and help others....:)



P.S. By the way the one post that helped me the most, and fixed the issue really didint have to do with my problem... just hours of sitting here reading <blagggg!> and it was this:

All settings were correct, exept in my loginserver.ini I tried using my external ip, and my internal ip, AND localhost, but what fixed the whole damned problem <besides sourcing in a different db, meaning the connection issue>, was changing the worldaddress to 127.0.0.1................ so for all you getting the problem I was having, less the db issue, try that... woot..

True mattmeck, im sorry bout being bias as i did not intend to, its just that i had come across MW first and what i started with so i am pretty oriented on that one. Havent tried Myra's yet, perticually cause everthing is running good with this one. Not exactly sure if theres a way to souce both DB and alternate to and from them as i just followed the guide that comes withe the 5.2 release, regarding sourceing in.

crap i did somthing wrong, i am an arse honest....

people think i am just mean, but what nobody bothers to look at is.... The devs are starting to crack down and even are banning people for asking questions that have been answered / are what they feel is idiotic ( an this is there project there rules there world so they can do what they want). Others have tried the nice bit and people just took advantage of them and never checked for anything on there own and just spammed the bords over and over again. So I am trying a smart arsed tactic to get people to read befor they post. So if me gaining a hate group named after me, and having people that dont know me hate me is the results of having people think befor they post then so be it.

Right on mattmeck, i as well as the majority agree, i havent had to one post a help question on this fourm as i have found every answer i ever needed in here, took me a while but the key is to know that someone has asked it 10 times before and there is always and answer to the more basic ones. I had the first error of not running the right version of the emu for my eq live version, easy fix, common sense to go to the newer version. Bit tricky to figure out the laste bianaries tho, since i was too stupid to realize to copy all the files minus the new ones from my old 5.2 folder. As for the large Item Error when running it, also can be located multiple times on the boards.

Personaly, i havent joined the Anti-Mattmeck Orginization, and dont plan on it cause everything you say is right. And the person with more post than you knows what he's talking about.

Aside with that, quick question, so how do you set up a server anyways?
