Possible?
It has come to my attention that with EQEmu and the downloadable version of EQ, that you can create a completely free game. Plus, if you manage to get hosts, it is not difficult to server farm.
This is my idea for a new way of selecting classes, I'm just wondering if it is possible? Are you able to completely rewrite classes and give them different spells and such, or can you only slightly modify them? My thought is this in character creation: the player picks a race, and then a discipline. A "discipline" is basically a fighting style that the player can use. There are three disciplines: Rogue, Ranger, Warrior. Someone with the Rogue discipline gets the skills of a rogue and can backstab. Someone with ranger get ranger skills and can track. And someone with warrior skills is a master of plate armor, shields, and also can mend (think of a fighting style like an SK or pally). After you pick a discipline, the player picks their religion. A different religion will give you a different set of spells. There will be 8 different sets of spells: necromancer, magician, cleric, beastlord, shaman, bard, wizard, enchanter, and druid. Therefore, players will pick one of three disciplines (classes) and one of eight religions (spell sets). Is this possible? How customizable is class creation and the such? And if you could...how could I do this? Editing database or coding? Thanks... |
Also, its been awhile since I've played EQ, and I've got a few questions. With OpenZone, can I create a zone with bazaar options? Do people with SoL see horses? Can you get horses on the original continent? Thanks...

Unfortunately, a lot of the class/race/religion is client-based, and the client has not been edited. It may be possible, but it would be a great deal of work. Perhaps you could set up some sort of server-based class selection system (basically rewriting whatever the client has chosen), but that would require some heavy coding. The client restrictions are quite heavy in EQ, so even that may be too difficult to be worth it.
You can change the spells around on all the classes, making unique ones. You can edit the skills of these classes and such. It's probably best to just do that instead. |
