New Engine's effects on EQemu

In case you haven't read, SOE is planning on updating the EQ engine within the next month. I'm just wondering if that will deter the progress on the emu at all. What does everyone else think?

Isn't the Engine just to load/display the actual EQ World for the client? I don't think it affects anything server-side....then again - could be wrong :)

Yeah I would assume that a new engine, especially the way they plan on introducing it, is JUST a wrapper to make things look and act better.. This is NOT always true though, because sometimes with a new engine, the code changes for things in the world itself. I am only assuming that it wont affect us that much because it is a patch and not a whole new install of sorts... In other words, when you hear update, you think, it must just be a facelift, but if you hear upgrade, then you might be talking something bad (for our sakes anyhow hehe). Those are just MY thoughts, could be wrong.

well it would be bad for us, but even if it was an "upgrade" it would be a temporary bad...i cant see there being any permenant damage

I also heard they were going to improve the pathing furthermore along with the new engine. And yes, I suppose they're going to change a bit of the code too. Many of the static objects in the game you can interact with, are also going to be improved in some way, so I guess it will require a pretty major update for EQEmu.

So far it looks like the 0x03 structures in .WLD files were slightly expanded, but that's all I could find. It looks like the texture filename can optionally be preceded by three integers, but I don't know what they mean yet. It doesn't appear necessary, though, so I doubt there will be any problems with OpenZone...but the only way to tell is to test it with an updated version of EQEmu. The .WLD change will probably break the EQ Zone Viewer, however, but altering it to read the files again should be trivial.
