Login and password the same... no matter what.
 

Okay, here's a new one. I got the server up, fine and dandy, even created a character and ran around in the world for a bit. i'm enjoying it right about now.
Right, so i wanted to log onto my server as something other than my admin login with supreme godlike powers, so's i put in another name. Somedude (login) Somedude (pass)... or really any login or pass, and i still get the same account with the same characters with the same serverop abilities.

Am i doing something wrong?

If you are using Minilogin this will happen... Minilogin technically only supports ONE account... Meaning you can have different accounts, but will log into the same character screen (read will have the same characters to choose from)...

Well stink. are there any other programs that i use that would offer multiple accounts? or is that just through the big dogger server?

That's all there is.. You can use the EQEMu login servers if you want but will be a public server.. There are ways around that though... just make everyone you want to have access to your server a server_op, then set the commands to lvl 255 or something like that in your addon.ini, and make yourself the only person that is 255 (everyone else is 200). Then all you have to do is put locked= True in your loginserver.ini file and it will appear locked to everyone, except that those that have server_op status will still be able to log in.....

Or you could change every IP in loginserver and boot5zones to localhost and no one but the people on the LAN will be able to log in.

actually i've gotten the server to work internally, oddly enough, but still not through the eqemu servers. I still don't understand what i'm doing wrong. Everyone else can join my game and create characters, but i'm still getting the 1017 error whenever i try to log onto my server through the eqemu site. at first i thought it was just the port issue, but the ports are all right because it's detecting that i'm trying to connect and attempts to connect me about 20 times before it boots me.

If it is NOT a NAT issue, then it has to be a version issue... Try repatching (but not on the 23rd) and see if that helps... Also is the PW you are trying to use TOO short? This WILL cause 1017 error....

it's 6 characters. is that too small?
