Nah, you don't need a double kick to play metal. :) Metal didn't start out with double kick. Hehe... But double kick is nice to mix things up.

Guess it depends how far you go back w/it ;) Back in 83 when I was taking drums in HS, they had a kit w/double kicks ;) Damn funny to watch all the drum students literally scrapping over who gets to use the kit ;)

Gonkers, are you just going to self teach or take lessons? If going the self taught route, you might want to actually study drum notation a lil bit. Easier to figure out a lot of 'styles' without taking months to figure out exactly how they did it.

Notation is the way they 'write' music for drums, very similar to any other musical intrument (Piano, guitar etc). It allows you to actually see what you need to do with each hand and foot, rather than guessing.

This site actually has a not bad layout for the beginner drummer, or you can blow $50 on the teaching package he sells. But once you understand the basics, it's pretty easy from there.

got my drums, having a hella time putting them together, no instructions so had to look online sigh... Waking up tomorrow to finish it off.

And found out I put the bass drums thingies on wrong side, so have to switch them tomorrow sigh, too much to do...and to go to a employee shit for work, I hate tomorrow LOL...but so much love that I got my package ).

Hehe just wait until you get good enough to start doing gigs ;) Setup/teardown supremely sucks ;)

I put together everything this morning........except for the floor toms, the Hoops and head over fit, but that was not the biggest problem. The Hoops for the floor tom did not even line up with the holes. I emailed them with a strict but yet formal letter asking for a new hoops and head. lets see if they will.
