Login Problem <patch related>

Ok, well I didnt read the warning for 5.5 and I patched on the 14th..BUT I am not a complete moron and back up my EQ folder every couple o weeks so in case I screw up I have something to fall back on.

The problem lies in that I copied over my backup EQfile into my eq folder and it still wont play. So my question is is there a limit on how far back your game is patched. These files were last patched maybe 3 weeks ago, should they work? or is it necessary to have up to the very last patch?

Delete the patched folder, rename your backup folder to EverQuest and then try.

It probably overwrote the files, but there'd have been some new files in there that shouldn't have been.

Basically - delete the bad directory and restore the safe one - dont just overwrite.

Oh and, congrats on keeping a backup. :)

Ok I will try that then, thanks.

But before I do, I checked the folder and it was last patched on the 7th of this month. Will that patch run with 5.5?

7th April? Yes, fine.

Bah, ok, that took longer then expected. And well it didnt work. I can make it to the server select screen, and then the screen minimizes while loading.
After about a 6 second pause, I get an EQgame.exe error.

Runnin windows xp

Do you have DirectX 9? What graphics card are you using?

Won't help you at the moment, but once you are up and running use the WinXP restore function anytime that SOE announces a patch. Its faster than deleting/copying. I use restore points to bounce back and forth.

As a side note, always keep a good backup on removable media. DVD-burners are cheap these days (since EQ is over 2 gigs) or at least use Ghost or PQ Drive Image and span an image across CD media.
