Legit servers? Whats the point?
 

Most people log onto these servers to have fun and to enjoy a game that they couldnt by playing EQ regularly... so why would anyone go through all this trouble just to play EQ normal? By starting from scratch and leveling.... kind of .... pointless if you ask me

Why ? Hummm, why would you go play at WoW, or EQ2, or SWG ? Because you want to play something new, no ? So, why will you play on an EQEmu custom server ? To experience something new.

I will say that the real problem in EQEmu, is that a "custom legit" server is a large term, if you spawn 1 orc in gfay, you are custom legit ...
I remember a guy treating me as a liar when saying EQA actually have 1600 custom spells, 2000 custom items and blablabla ... a custom server isnt only a MW5.7 DB with some tweak in it.

You are not forced to log into a legit or custom legit server, there are good non legit server out here, i can site you some if you want, and its not because you dont legit that all have to dislike it.

You're pretty much right that there is not much of a point to play on a legit server that is an exact copy of EQ Live. Its the exact same thing and nothing is new, but there is no such thing as a server that is exactly like live here. People try to make some as close as possible but its an impossible task unless someone steals Sony's server code and DB. On all servers here you can level up much faster, which is a big bonus to most of us who have no desire to spend years and hundreds of dollars getting a character to level 65. And most servers are much farther from Live than that. Custom Legit servers are the best servers here in a lot of people's opinions (the other people like not legit the best). They are a completely different game from EQ live, they jsut use the same graphics. Mobs use the same model but may be a completely different level range, quests and story lines are radically different. My favorite server is Scorpious2k and on this the low level zones are very similar to Live, but with some interesting and suprising twists and the higher level you achieve the farther from Live it becomes. And thanks to Scorp's genious we can level up to double the normal maximum level and fight challenges that are apropriate for those levels all while going through unique and fun quests and storylines.

I agree 100% with regards to a legit server that is trying to model eqlive exactly (well, almost 100%.. I guess there are some people that are just tired of paying for something that is constantly breaking and come here because when it constantly breaks they don't feel like they are being charged for it... heheh)..

Personally thats while I'm working on building a custom legit server, and not one like Khan described where only 1 new mob is spawned in a zone. In my opinion, adding one or two mobs and keeping everything else the same shouldn't be classified as custom.

What I don't think, is that in order for a server to be fun you have to give people "godmode". If you want "godmode" go play doom or quake.. heheh (Again, don't flame.. These are just my opinions and even though they are always right, not everyone shares them.. /laughs and ducks)

At any rate, if you find a public custom legit server where the ops have taken time to create a storyline, do code customizations to change/fix the way things work in eq-live, and create customized content (spells, armor, weapons, etc)... At that point you have a legit server that is fun to play.

From what I have read from posts from scorp, khan, richardo, and several others here, everyon has kinda developed their idea of how eq should be and have shared some great ideas. I'm sure if you keep searching, you'll find there are some great legit servers that aren't the same ol' EQ experience.
