Firewall Ports
Exscuse me if this is already posted, but i searched and searched and couldnt find it. I would really like to know which Firewall Ports need to be open to play on EQ. Specifically the Winter Roar server.
Thanks |
i believe you can still play with a firewall on right? someone correct me if im wrong...
(i play with my firewall on) |
Ive tried with my firewall on and its not working. Ive lookeda t the logs and im seeing a few ports and ive opened them but theres still more and id much rather not open the entire firewall up.

are you running mcafee?

No i dont think so. Its winroute. I go through my home network. It may be my router but i dunno. Dont tell me just to look at the bottom of the screen or anything. Its run on an entirely different comp that i dont have access to.

Firewall
Firewall does not stop client traffic. Firewall will only mess you up if running a server. Never had problems with any firewalls over 6 years of playing EQ, both Live and EMU. With multiple machines on the inside.
Only when running a server will you need to open ports up, and even then, it's only one port range. Something else is wrong with your configuration or something, it's NOT the firewall. Fester |
Firewall
If you have any questions about your config then simply put the machine outside the internal IP's. Use your routable IP and see how it works.

I'm not saying the firewall is or isn't the problem here but just wanted to make sure the original poster didn't stop looking into it because it is a "non-issue". There is a post out on the eq-live site (I think in the FAQ) regarding which ports need to be open... Hmmm.. Let me find it real quick.. From eqlive knowledgebase after searching firewall: Quote:

Thanks

That's true, but for most home users with Linksys routers and such, they we will able to play on multiple machines internally without any problems and no configuration changes.
If we knew what firewall was being used we could help. He could also just forward all traffic to the one internal machine he wants to play on, there are many solutions. But I still get the feeling he is using a typical D-Link, netgear cable/dsl NAT style router and thinks it is the cause, but it is not. |
Ya im under a SMC router (NAT) and i never have to open any ports, but i tried to connect to EQ Emu and it lets me get to the servers and it will not let me connect any further to any of em, gives me 1017 error . I am trying to fix but am having problems trying if anyone can help. thanks.

Try DMZ host on that IP, I bet you get the same error. Showing that you actually get to the login and such shows something else is prolly going on.
