FAQ: Local connect is not supported in 2.0+?

I hope thats just meaning its not at this time supported. I dont want to connect through the internet just to play my Emu server. I play with my friends on a LAN. Fact is my modem cant handle the throughput in EQ anymore and my fast download is dish based so its laggy for games.

Please dont tell me this server will only be online based and no plans for something like minilogin support. The + sign is what made me think it wont.

With the release of Shadows of Luclin(TM), Verant changed eqgame.exe so it requires eqmain.dll at all times. This has been the reason why you can no longer connect locally to yourself.

There is a "Mini-Loginserver" released which connects to yourself using the eqemu/eqemu login and password. Unfortunitly there is no support for this loginserver and I am not aware of any plans to release the full Loginserver.

Thats not good. I hope at least there will always be a minilogin for those of us that want an Emu for local play. If not ill be waiting for Ashrans. lol.

I know alot of people love the mini-login. Hope Quag keeps it working with new versions.

I'm not certain, but I'd assume that the mini-login server will work with any version of EQEmu in the near future. What would stop it working is any significant modification to the code in the world server which allows the login and world servers to communicate with each other, and I shouldn't think that will need to be changed now that it works OK (maybe the developers could correct me on this though).
The source to the full login server has also been released, I don't know if anyone has had any success compiling it yet.

I've compiled the full login server but have not gotten it to work yet.
I always get a "bad username/password" error.

Zeitgeist 01-28-2002 03:51 AM

isn't part of the authentication missing? or did you snag the compiled .dll for that?

Shawn319 01-28-2002 03:58 AM

There's a dll? I'm not aware of any dll used with EQEmu or any of the loginservers. Maby your thinking of EthernalQuest and EQ_Coder.dll?

And even if the full source for loginserver was released i'm sure 99.9573% of the people that tryed to use it will fail because it is a bit messy. Thats one of the major reasons it's not out and fully supported. Maby it will in the future though, who knows..

khaine 01-28-2002 04:13 AM

I didnt have much trouble compiling it just had to locate a few .lib's and .h's. I haven't really explored the code
(not a lot of free time), all i changed was commenting out the lines with #define MINILOGIN .

Theres also a sql script with the source to create 3 new tables (LOGIN_ACCOUNTS, LOGIN_AUTHCHANGE,
and LOGIN_WORLDSERVERS). I think my problem is not having the right values in those tables.

There will always be a *LOCAL* "mini-logonserver" available for the emu. It operates much like the normal LS.

The only thing that has changed is the method for logging on locally to the emu. Note: Ethernalquest also uses a login server.

Thanks Pyro thats all I wanted to know heh. Maybe somebody could change the FAQ to state it another way.

FAQ= Local connect is not supported in 2.0+ unless uesing Minilogin.

Sure would be a better way to say it hehe.

Q. Do I need to use the Loginserver to connect locally?
A. You cannot connect locally with 0.2.0+
Sorry my fault :( I wrote the FAQ before the mini-loginserver was released. At the time I was unaware of any way to login locally (I wrote that answer based on the information I learned about the problem caused by deleteing eqmain.dll )

Shawn319 01-28-2002 08:49 AM

Proof :)

Vipermmx 01-28-2002 05:37 PM

lol ahhh. I was just wondering because it could confuse new people. I knew we had a minilogin but when I read that it seemed like there would be no more support. I see what you mean though.
