can you get caught?
Is it possible for one to get caught from using EQemu? And if so how? Is there any precautions one can take to prevent it? Is there any specific things someone can do that will get them busted by sony?
If your busted do they block your IP from the patch server? Or do they just close your account and delete all characters? Or do they do something that prevents you from using or playing EQ all together? (including EQemu) The reason I ask is because I heard a rumor that Sony can catch you and ban you for using EQemu. :?: |
Im pretty sure that the only way you can be "caught" is if you broadcast that u are using an eqemulator. Im not sure if Sony has to have concrete evidence against you to ban/delete chars. I think one could get into trouble using a packet collector....not emu tho.

The only way they can do anything is if you openly admit it, and if you do the only thing they can do is ban you from their loginservers.

Using the Emu is completely legal and the only thing Sony can do is ban you. Its pretty stupid of them to stop taking your money though so I doubt they would. And the only way they can find out is if you tell them or you decide to be dumb and post your EQ login info here nad they happen to read it, but thats unlikely.

Close call...
I was sending my log files to a Tech Guide friend of mine and he saw a different IP log in , which could get you caught easily, heh. At least he was a friend, otherwise I'd be in some trouble :P

phew
thanks guys, was all worried that just because the patch server noticed the eqhost file was different I was busted then and there.

SOE DOESNT GIVE A RATS ASS I have said that before and will continue to say it. We have had EQlive devs in irc before flat out admit they dont care. Just dont be a retard. |

Use two folder for EQEmu and EQLive (like you should be doing!) and the patch server will never have to overwrite your eqhost.txt file from live.
|
Even if you do have to patch over your emu files, the patch server doesn't keep track of every file it has to overwrite, otherwise every patch day it would be logging 200k+ files.
Way too much work just to catch a bunch of people who don't hurt eq very much at all. |

if Sony wanted to take eqemu down they could do it technically pretty easily. If they don't, it prolly mean that eqemu doesn't harm they much ! (which isnt eqemu's goal anyway).

Last time I checked, it's not illegal to play Emu. You've got nothing to worry about, however, if the devs began charing for play fees, then the process could be deemed illegal...

JohnRev, you might want to think about cutting down on your signature a bit.
