I think by posting this you've jsut volunteered to do it :) Who better to do it than someone who really wants to use it, helps make sure it gets done right and quickly.

It's possible to just setup a normal server and lock it, but set all the people you want to allow on's status at like 100.

^_^ Lol i would do it but i don't know C++

I think this is more needed then some people realize, since minilogin broke theres been alot of on and off broken servers, I think this would take some pressure off the logins. Remember the long downage recently?

I too would like to see the return of minilogin. Some friends and I are still wanting to work up a custom server but really would like to work via our VPN to get the basics done.

minilogin still wouldnt work if you had the latest patch tho right?

animepimp 07-25-2004 02:41 AM

It would work with the new login if it was rewritten which is what this thread is about. Please read the whole thread before responding to it. But it would not help people who cannot play right now because the server code is still incompatible.

mini-login was 'never' released open source. i always thought that was so fubar, since eqemu is opens source. if mini-login was going to come back, the dev who made it would release the source or keep it updated. sure its possible to recode it, but i dont see it happening if someone hasnt already.

on a side note, it would be a nice feature to implement into freaku, if its dev would put in an option for lan support. host/connect to.

Just a note for this thread...

the login protocol has COMPLETELY changed... as far as I can tell anyways (not sure what it was like between 2002 and now)... it used to be based on the same protocol as the rest of the game, but now it is not.

I have been working on a login server, and am having decent success at it , the protocol is fairly simple. I have looked at that ancient mini-login code, and decided to write mine from scratch. One area that I am having huge problems is decrypting the login/password from the stream, and the communication between the world server and the login server... if anybody has knowledge in this area, please PM me.

Does anybody know if there are real or legal reasons that nobody out there has written an open source login server since 2002? That kinda bothers me, since the new login protocol is so simple, I figure SOMEBODY would have figured it out by now...

Yes, it would be folly is base the new login on the old code. It would almost be as bad as trying to put this image together.

Anyways, the old login server had licensure problems to begin with. With the new NEW login on test at the moment it would not be all that useful to work on the old new login.

Lol and as for mini-login not being open source theres a very good reson for that the same reson the normal login server is not open source i was talking with BS last night its becuse it has EQ crypto in it and well as he said

Minilogin had no encryption/decryption in it, hence why it used IP addresses for authentication.

Xabob 07-29-2004 03:28 PM

it had to use the crypto becsue it was hard coded into the Eqgame.exe so there for mini-login has the crypto in the source

Yeah.. Xabob you are the one that should be putting your foot in your mouth. You are incorrect. None of the publically availible logins could decrypt.
