a newbie question

hail all.

i am completeley new to everquest, since i have been playing and staffing uo for over 6 years *ducks*.

the main difference between uo and everquest freeshards seems to be that uo sites are much better advertized. i never had problems finding great uo shards, but i could not find a single webpage for an everquest freeshard. (with news, forums, server status, staff links etc.).

please help me out. i would love to join a good freeshard. preferably one in europe and one that has been around for a while. (1 year+)

are there any toplists? do you guys know any legendary shards with a fairly large player base (15+ players on at any given time) and some good rp?

i would be so excited to get started on everquest. better late than never, eh?

thank you very much in advance!

p.s. (if a thread like this exists already, feel free to just post a link to it :) )

And actually, WR is euro in the sense that's it's mostly run by Euros, but the majority of our players are American. :P

thanks for the feedback, guys, i do appreciate it. i think i will give both shards a try (hopefully they support my just bought version, which includes everquest + ruins of kunark + scars of velious & shadows of luclin; do they?), then see which one i feel more comfortable at.

as far as uo goes. i have been playing and staffing at http://www.alexiashard.com for over a year. it may not be the biggest uo shard (usually around 10-30 players on at any given time), but it's stable, has been around for over 3 years, emphasizes on events as well as casual rp, has (for uo) a kicking race system, and hands out 3 GM skills upon joining. you need "age of shadows" to run it. pvp is permitted in all of felucca. malas and trammel are pvp-free (just like on osi).

anywho, thanks again for replying. i am definetely excited to start everquest for the first time ever. i will be a complete NOOB, which is a scary thought for someone who has accomplished just about everything there is on ultima online.

I HIGHLY recommend playing EQLive before starting EQEMu. You have to pay, but you'll learn how the game works whereas many pieces to EQEMu are still not fixed.
