scalar problem

I followed the tutorial on setting up a 6.0dr2 server and everything is working great. It wasn't much of a challenge from back when I had a public 4.4 server running. But now I want to start writing quests again. I had a ton made for the old quest system but they don't work now. However I have followed the perl enabled tutorial and no matter what I do I can't seem to get the perl Scalar.pm to work right. The first time I tried installing it it gave me an error (Don't remember what) But the second time I tried to install it, it connected to dome ftp sites and a bunch of text later it said it was done. But when I try to boot up the zoneperl zones it gives me an error and suggests that scalar isn't installed.

EDIT *************

I got scalar installed correctly because it does that "Installed" test correctly... but i still get the "Printhook error, are you lacking scalar" error from the zoneperl.exe files. Any ideas on whats wrong ?

EDIT *************

Is there any way to install this stiff manually without it having to connect to some unknown ftp. Thats gonna make it hard to get a serer running in the future if URLs change.

What does the scalar thing do anyways ??

I guess my main question is can I have quests without this scalar and if not how can I install it correctly (I have the rest of the server done) Second question... would it be hard to put the old quest code back in as a backup if you don't have the perl enabled server running ??

yes you need scalar for quests. And yes, you can undefine EMBPERL and EMBPERL_PARSER, and it won't compile perl.

..

I have it installed and it works as per the test in the tutorials. But when I start a server and try to load zoneperl.exe they zoneperl.exe file give me a "Printhook error" that suggests that i don't have scalar installed.

This is what I need help to fix. Any ideas?
