Server seems to be working

Hello all. And before someone tries to tell me to use the search. I have, alot.
Attempted to try the IRC but some ass by the name of tbti was too busy saying how stupid ppl are because they have a problem and none of you would be here without him.

Anyways, I think the server is running fine ( 6.1 ) World loads up find and connects as does boot5zones.bat they then load good and go into sleeping mode. My problem is I then fire up EQ to find the server and it does not show up on the server list at all. I have done as the router suggestions said and opened up that comp thru DMZ and also just incase I opened up the ports themselves for world and zone.

this is what I have as my loginserver and boot5zone.

[LoginServer]
loginserver=eqlogin1.eqemulator.net
loginport=5998
worldname=Superquesttest
worldaddress=192.168.1.103
locked=false
account=
password=

[WorldServer]
Defaultstatus=0
Unavailzone=

REM:--------------Start-----------------------
@echo off if NOT exist spells_us.txt goto NOSPELL
start zone . 12.217.83.16 8780 192.168.1.103
start zone . 12.217.83.16 8781 192.168.1.103
start zone . 12.217.83.16 8782 192.168.1.103
start zone . 12.217.83.16 8783 192.168.1.103
start zone . 12.217.83.16 8784 192.168.1.103
exit
cls
:NOSPELL
echo You did not copy the spells_en.txt from your everquest directory to this one. Please do so or zones will crash on startup.PAUSE
REM:---------------END------------------------

Gonna mess with some other things. But hopefully someone with more of a helpful nature is willing to assist.

Not sure, but when I setup mine, the worldaddress and the start zone address (first address) usually match. Depends on how you want to run your server. If you want a LAN server (only people inside your LAN can play) then you should use only internall IP addresses, otherwise you need to use WAN IPs (which you should change your world address to match the first IP of the start zone.) Hope I've helped.

Went around and made that so the external IP on the worldserver matched the first one of the boot5zones. Replaced the line to saw newlogin and I still dont seem to see my server at the server slect screen no matter which way I put those IP's :(

Althought when I did have the IP's all matching right this last time I got some warning in World that I should place a user and pass in so something different happened. What that difference was though I really dunno.

Cala , the login for 6.1 is : loginserver=eqemulator.net
loginport=5998

LoginServer]
loginserver=eqlogin1.eqemulator.net
loginport=5998
worldname=Superquesttest
worldaddress=IN HERE PUT YOUR EXTERNAL IP !
locked=false
account=
password=

and the bat file looks ok.

Oh and if you have a Linksys router I would suggest DMZ if you want others to connect and if you want it just for you then just use port forwarding, BUT with linksys you can not use both as one will negate the other ALWAYS and make them both useless.

Oh yeah one more thing , USE SEARCH !! lol/jk

Calabeth 05-25-2005 02:11 AM

Will try that trick with the linksys later, gonna nap now hehe. I had DMZ and the ports both opened up so hopefully that was the trick =P

Calabeth 05-26-2005 12:15 AM

KK I tried those tricks also. Do I possibly have to register my server then for it to show up at all? Or should I be able to see it regardless of if I have registered it at all.

RangerDown 05-26-2005 02:47 AM

Server registration isn't required unless you intend to have a green or yellow tagged server. (And private servers aren't eligible for that status.) Keep trying, and the very end of your world.exe loadout should read "Connected to loginserver eqemulator.net." If you don't see this line come up then you are not connecting.

Simplify your troubleshooting a bit and just see if you can establish a connection at all. Try to port 5998 of eqemulator.net with this command from the server computer:

Code:

C:\> telnet eqemulator.net 5998
If you connect, then you have no router problems. If you don't connect, don't bother playing with world.exe until you can get that connection working.

And I woke up the next morning to scroll back up and find the conversation with tbti. Had I been awake at that point, it wouldn't have gotten that far.

Calabeth 05-26-2005 05:58 AM

hehe Thanks RD. Well as far as the telnet, first shot I believe it went thru as the dos window renamed itself to telnet eqemulator and became just a blinking cursor.

Must of been Something I did wrong with World then as I still have the External IP list and the last 4 line on it ( not fired up boot5zones.bat yet )

TCP Listening on: ( external IP ):9000
Starting factory Reader
Starting factory Writer
World server listening on: ( external IP ):9000

I know there is prolly something simple here that I have over looked somehow.
But on the bonus side I have the starts of atleast 3 long quests I have been able to rough draft to source in and test when I finally get it working lol. (practicing quests where you talk to x and y spawns nearby, kill y for drop c, turn drop c in for quest advancement dealys )
