mobs don't aggro

I had recently setup my own server. Everything seems to be working fine, however the mobs that should be attacking you aren't. They con correctly, but just go about their own way. Only if I attack them will they engage. Is there something I should be setting. Not sure where to start. A little help would be appreciated.

Do you have the maps?

vales 06-04-2006 06:39 AM

Maps would be a good thing. :p

Another thing is that I found that most factions are incorrect, and may take a bit of tweaking. They normally don't let Ogre Shadowknights run around in Kelethin last time I remembered, heh. You basically start off in a semi-netutral faction and then slowly work your way across the faction hits as you start hunting and killing things. For instance, with PEQ's database, I was conning dubiously to Orcs in Oasis - without killing one. After a few kills, they were outright attacking me on sight.

Another thing to consider would also be the database you could be using.

I could have sworn I put the maps in. I'll look into that. Thx for the response.

It's pretty easy to get the case wrong for the maps folder (I can't recall which is correct, and I'm not runnning a sertver atm due to having to be a good example to my kids who won't do anything except play games.... the trials of parenthood lol). Try changing the folder name from "maps" to "Maps" (or vice versa) if you do have the maps "installed".

Not all versions of winzip handle tar.gz files well.

xxcrominxx 06-04-2006 11:43 AM

Well, I tried changing the maps folder to "Maps" and nothing. Does something need to be tweaked?

I pretty much used the setup guide for 0.7.0 and installed everything correctly. Editing the eqemu_config.xml file is the only thing I may not have changed.

I may try to reinstall everything. Thanks for the info though.

Not take offense, but we speak about maps directory in your eqemu root directory, not the maps of eq client. We are right ?
On windows, Maps or maps is same, system don't make difference.

have you download this map pack : http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ease_id=314854 ?

Yes. I have downloaded this map pack and is in the eqemu map folder.
EQemu
-Maps
-Maps(where I have my files at)

That's how I have it set. I am curious to know what the map files have to do with the behavior of the mobs. I thought there would be different files for such a thing. Just a little confused. Sorry

vales 06-05-2006 06:17 AM

There should be only one maps folder in the emu folder, and it should contain the map files. Not two like you have stated. Or did you mean something different alltogether?

If you have two folders, the emu can't find the map files.

I removed the xtra map folder, but still no change. Mobs are still all passive.
I may just reinstall everything to see if anything changes. Thx for the help though.

BTW. What version of MySQL is everyone using. Should I be using 4.0.23 or newer?

Having the same problem here too, maybe it is something to do with Line of sight because sometimes when I am killing a mob and try casting a spell it says "you cannot see your target". I am using Cavedudes database btw.
Even when I attack a mob in the middle of a bunch of others which would assist and attack me the mobs still just stand there oblivious.
The onlt mob assists I have encountered is when I kill Cazic Thule in PoFear. He calls for Fright, Dread and Terror who come running across the zone.

I can't stress enough that this _is_ a problem with the maps. Check all the walkthroughs/tutorials/wiki carefully. Check the names of the Directories. Check that there is a map file for the zone(s) in question!!! Make sure that you have logging turned on in your server and check there - I seem to recall that you get a log message if maps can't be loaded.

And when you get a fix post it both here in this thread AND in the wiki!!

Yes, It was extra maps folder. I had changed this the first time and nothing happened. After reinstalling everything, it works. No idea what I did.

If you're using a unix/linux-based server, you need to make sure your maps directory is proper case, as unix file systems are case sensitive. It must be named "Maps" and the map files underneath need to have the exact case as their short_name in the `zone` table of your database has.

security settings on maps folder

I've been having a lot of trouble with my spells and mob agro lately. I couldn't figure it out. I've tried everything except wiping my folders completely and starting over. Today I tried opening a map file to see what was in the file and access was denied. Then it hit me, my maps were downloaded and extracted on an admin account (windows 2k) and I play on a non admin account. So I went to the admin account and checked and sure enough, the files themselves were set to only have admin access. I reset the folder and all child objects to be accessible by all users and logged onto my nonadmin account and everything works perfectly now. If you keep getting "your spell is interupted" and "you cannot see your target" messages, this could part of your problem :)
