What started out as a 1017 has become a complete crash to desktop without error messages of any kind from anywhere.

Now going onto 14 hours. I'm rather brain fried at this point. Essentially, I can connect, put in my login and password as received in my email, get to the servers. My server does show up and I click on it and hit Play EQ. Ok, so far so good. I get to the character selection screen, choose my character and click enter. One of three things happen at this point and I am not doing anything AT ALL different each time. It seems to be random occurrences: 1. Either I will get a Zone Not Available message. If I hit enter again, or select a new character from my list, the second thing happens. 2. EQ and EQW (version 2.22) will crash to desktop. No error message, nothing. 3. I will be returned to the server selection screen with a 1017 Error. Now, I've read thru EVERY 1017 problem I could find in the search - some dating back to January. I have tried everything suggested there. Yes, I've read the readme.txt and have downloaded, reinstalled, followed step by step...read and re-read the readme. I've done everything humanly possible that I've been able to find to get this to work. I really don't think it's anything that I've done or haven't done that is causing this to happen. I find that one very bizarre Unknown opcode that is only 4 in size and the info following it that may be the key. I even thought that maybe the $MAXUSERS: -1 might be at fault and have played with different values on that. The information I've shown here, however, have it set back to -1 because nothing worked - if I connected at all. At least with -1 and 0, I can connect. Now if I'm not doing something right in my assorted files listed above and I simply haven't seen it, please tell me. |
I'm afraid you have come down with Cronic Emu Readability Syndrom, A dabilitating disease commonly contracted by not reading the freakin manual :(

Somehow I knew I would get a sarcastic reply but let me enlighten you further...if I remove the login and password from that particular location it doesn't connect - and that's with leaving everything else exactly as posted.
So quit freakin out on me for not reading the manual - a manual, I might add that I have pretty much memorized at this point. ... For the record, I removed those entries and surprisingly still managed to connect this time but the problem described STILL very much exists. 1017 for me on XP and win98se
I get the 1017 thing too whether it be XP or 98SE... but watching stdout from world I occasionally see it spit out:
Unknown opcode 0x3521 size:2056 Client disconnected Removing client from ip:[my ip] port:[some port] or it just disconnects the client midway loading the server. Can anyone shed some light? |
answered
takes forever to explain
search the message board I had the same problem I found the answers in here not to brush ya off but honestly your fix lies within the board already |
ACK! You didn't give a direction? lol. I've been perusing the boards since I posted and I've seen some very good ideas that haven't worked yet.
One of them that caught my attention was the guy with the slow computer but that isn't the issue with me. I'm still searching... |
Arcalyn you may have had it too but...
I also get the same exact error trying to connect to any of the servers on the eqemu login servers. Client finishes loading world and then booted back to server selection. Again this is BOTH XP and 98SE.
|
Finally...
I finally managed to get everything up and running and heaven forfend, I can also stay connected. It was a two part deal (and both answers *are* on the boards as Arcalyn said.
The first part was a corrupted database. I don't know what happened to it but by dropping the eq db in mySQL and redoing that step (as per readme), I was able to log on but wasn't able to stay connected for any longer than a few seconds before being booted. This second part was a post here in the forum but it was a little difficult to find. I should've used the keyword ld or linkdead or something instead of disconnected or kicked because it took some time to find it. I had to increase my datarate (as per datarate.txt in the eq directory) from 5.0 to 10.0 (again this was in an already existing post but it was difficult to find). Now everything works exactly as it should. I just need to use one of the available databases to populate Norrath and I'll be all set. --- I tried several other things to correct this problem as well - also in the forums such as deleted .opt and .ini files as well as eqgame.exe and repatching. In short, I have been reading post after post after post for the last four hours and fifteen minutes or so. There really *has* to be a better way to index these posts. My thanks to Arcalyn for at least telling me the problem was solved and it actually was in the posts somewhere. Zorprime, try what I did and see if that helps. |
Nope >:(
No go... I've rebuilt my db 3 times since reading your post and both machines have their datarate set to 10.0
I guess I'll just have to wait till the next release, maybe there's something that hasn't been discovered yet that applies to me that will come to light sometime after the Jun 5 patch. Oh well |

The account and password will not work ever, so dont bother trying with or without (just use without). If you have problems without the l/p in there then you will not be any better off with one in it. there must be something elce wrong with it. Do you have a firewall, Proxy, Router or wireless LAN? |
Things that make you go hmmm ;)
LOL! Shawn, all that information was posted in the original post ;) But you're right, I didn't mention I had attempted the l/p with and without, but when I wasn't connecting to the login server (and I had attempted set up with the minilogin prior to using the eqemu servers) I thought I would give it a shot and put the l & p in - after that, I was suddenly able to connect. In retrospect, I think it was something else I did that made it connect but I didn't exactly document every step I took to solve my problems. LOL. (In hindsight, I should've even if only for personal sake). The only thing about my connection that might have thrown me (but was actually answered in a Linux post) was about my nic IP versus my PPPOE Dynamic IP (A royal pain in the butt as you have to go in and adjust all your ips in the loginserver.ini and the boot5zones.bat). I tried both IPs but my original theory of using the PPPOE Client IP (not the server IP that is also listed and I tried) was the correct one. Like I mentioned in the post before this one, once I was able to actually connect and click on my server - I could create a character but couldn't stay connected to my server and would be booted. That I discovered in another post dated some time ago about datarate. Once I made that adjustment, everything worked. Now that I finally managed all of that, I found a DB that worked (without crashing me) and now I"m playing with EQAdmin - which reminds me, I have a question relating to world building that I'll post in that forum.
But just for future reference, I am in tech support and have been for sixteen years. Trust me, I actually READ the readme files. I refuse to put a program on my computer until I *have* read them and understand what they're trying to say. Although I have to admit, that one line you had in the readme that states only put admin given login and password threw me for a bit there. You didn't exactly say that it *wasn't* the login and password that you create for the purposes of logging into the login server. ;) Regardless, my issues are resolved and now all I have to deal with are some aesthetics in the database (oh how I miss pathing ;)) Hmmm, I have another question now. hehe. I'll go post them. Thanks anyway tho, Shawn :) |
