Newb question re: LS Account creation

I read the wiki and documentation but I have a question!

So to host my own server... i still have to register myself with EQEmulator.net's LS thing even if i dont want to host the server to the public?

I just want a server for myself on my home LAN for my gf and i... Just wondering if say (15 years from now) if eqemulator.net closes down, I dont want to lose the ability to play on my own server at home if it requires some kind of validation with EQemulator.net....

i want a self sufficient server that doesnt require any external connections.. is this possible? That way i can cancel my internet and just play it at home all the time lol :)

Why do i have to register myself with eqemulator.net if i just want my own server? *scratches head*

sorry in advance for being a total noob, the Eqemulator project is awesome and y'all are lifesavers!

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but to host a mini login, I don't believe you need to setup a server key. Technically, you wouldn't even have to register a forums account. You'd just have to manually add your first account into your database, or for that matter, every account.

The minilogin doesn't check for password authentication, it just checks for an ip address to be associated with an account.

If you're running minilogin, I don't beleive you connect to eqemulator.net at all.

You are correct jeardoebj. To run a LAN game, no registration with eqemulator LS is required nor is an outside IP. All that needs to be done is setting all of the IP addresses in the EQEmu_Config.xml and loginserver.ini files to what ever your server's LAN IP is. Ex: 192.168.1.1

As you mentioned though, you must manually add in each new account to the server database AND each account should use a unique IP address because minilogin doesn't track user names and PWs for account verification. You can still multi-box off of 1 IP address and 1 account by simply making multiple characters on the same account as the minilogin server allows you to have multiple connections from the same account running at the same time.

The only issue you will run into is when you log off one account. You will want to log them all of instead of just 1 of them due to the minilogin server swapping your other ingame characters to what ever character you created first. This isn't a huge deal if you are going to log them all off anyway, but if you were wanting to keep playing with just 1 of your characters, you are better off logging them all off then reloading EQ with just the 1 character you still want to play. NOTE: the swapping of characters in game when logging off does NOT effect your items, xps, or anything else.
