Looking for a Verant-released Alpha of EQ

Hello all,

when EQ hit one of its earlier anniversaries (I think it was the second) Verant released a really early alpha version (maybe a tech demo?) of EverQuest, where you could run around a castle and talk to NPCs.

I'm desperately looking for this old gem, but can't find it for the life of me.

(Just to clarify: I am NOT looking for the old tutorial that came with the release of EQ. This request also has NOTHING to do with the current EQ anniversary edition.)

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks in advance,
Mongrel

I have what you are looking for. It's the first alpha version from august 1996.

Send me a PM with your email adress and I'll mail it to you.

How in the world would you even get this to run? I got to open, but it freezes up and crashes out?

Just out of curiosity, but does it even need a server to connect to?

it does freeze while it searches for a server to connect to , you just wait for it to say couldnt connect and hit ok then it will start.

This is the actual demo that brad mcquaid made and submitted to verant that got him the job.

I've had that old zip file for a while, but never knew what it was. I knew it looked sorta EQ'ish, and sort Ultima Underworld'ish. Glad to finally see what it was.
