Is EQ EMU falling apart?

Heya all! I just wanted to ask, is EQ Emu falling apart? I know recently there has been some patches that has been breaking the EMU, but I'm not exactly hearing of much progress. What makes me think this, is about 2-3 months ago when patches used to be maybe ever 2-3 days, EQ Emu had a new version the next day. I'm not complainin tho, just saying, it seems like its not a serious project anymore. Also, before the June 5th patch, there was a TON of servers, and everything was fine and dandy.. but now, since there's no new version of EQ emu, there have been people turning away from it. Like, if you look right now, there is only one legit server and all of the others are testing. The legit server (Hogiebane's) also has some problems.. and at times I go LD zoning and there is no database.. whatsoever... Any word?

The patches that Varent are doing are pretty much getting ready for the Planes of Power release. They are doing so many changes its probably hard to keep the emu working. After Planes of Power is released, patches will probably be back to normal, once every 3 months or so. But right after it is released, we will probably see a release every day to fix the thousands of bugs that they will have ;)

don't think it's falling apart, the devs are just spending more time
on the next release which is better imho. :)

Once again, I agree. The Devs spending more time on the emu is non-questionable.. the more time spent on it, the more features and compatibility when it's next release shows up.

I'm dishonest if I say the time since the last emu release isn't tense.... and purely lying if I say I don't crave another release, but.. the time already spent on the emu is tremendous, and much like a job.. even if it's fun, the devs need a little time to get things together... keeping up on the releases is distressing on the END-USER's side... nevermind what it's like when you actually have to do all the work!

it would be good to be able to get some updated sources if no binary updates so we could play with the thing but I guess it would not be compatible with login servers and things like that

Wrong

No, the devs are not spending more time on the emu. They are actually spending less time on it and more time on RL. At least thats what Shawn says. So yes, I do have a feeling that it is indeed falling apart especially since the update site for the new version of emu (eqemu.crimsonlayer.net) hasnt been updated in a couple of weeks.

h37lion 06-23-2002 12:59 AM

fine, whatever. I am just sick of seeing people bitch about the lack of updates.

Bloodyskull 06-23-2002 02:19 AM

I'm not bitching. Shawn said so himself. They are letting RL run their lives instead of the emu. So stfu.

If the attitude you've displayed on this thread is the way you like to act, be so kind as to do it on another post, even another forum. This is discussion about EqEmu and everything about that, not everything about you.

I simply stated that in general I was tired of seeing people only finding time to bitch about the next update.. only then did you choose to single yourself out and act defensive, showing me that you felt like that statement somehow was connected to you!

If you disagree and wish to flame, think not to outwardly display arogance and foolishness by posting it publically.. just send it as a private message - the point will be made, and 'BloodySkull' won't be looked apon as a fool.

he h37 guy, just do us a favor and be quiet and let the other guy get himself banned... he will regret it, k?

"They are letting RL run their lives instead of the emu"
Excuse me? What do any of us owe you? We don't owe you anything. You go out and work on your own emulator it you cannot deal with us and our real lives. Im not going to ruin my real life working on some emulator.

Hardy 06-23-2002 09:06 AM

I agree fully with Image, real life is alot more important than an emulator, they can quit whenever they feel like it, live with it. Its called life. They are not getting paid to do this, just be happy they are doing a great job on it, and if you want to keep playing on it, don't patch when they warn you about it, that might mean you need to read  its not that scary, trust me.

Just give it some time, all projects go through ups and downs. ;)

Zeitgeist 06-23-2002 12:04 PM

much love

hey Image et al thanks for the great work, ignore the Retard brigade and rest assured the longtimers are still here lurking. I still get IM messages every day and still help out where I can I just don't post as much. Enjoy RL and enjoy the emu when you can. You guys rock now as you always have. Projects do indeed swing up and down and all around... it doesn't really mean anything. Doomsaying is pointless... to the attitude monkeys sh!tspamming on this thread, get a life.

much love,

Z-.
