LoginServer dropping servers?

I notice my server (Morell) runs for days sometimes, then all of a sudden has no players for a while. I load up EQ client and connect to the LS and see my server has vanished. Running current SVN code on Linux (FC8).

Anyone have any ideas what might cause a server to disconnect and not bother trying to reconnect to the LS until a restart? I do have a dynamic IP which changes maybe weekly. If this is the cause, I will just get back in the habit of restarting the server every day. What a pain in the arse. ;)

TIA,
-J

I have the same issue. The LoginServer randomly drops my server. I checked all my logs. It happens frequently.

Windows servers don't have this issue from what I have seen, but it happens quite often on Debian and maybe some other distros of Linux. The problem is that the Login Server will go down for an extended amount of time (over an hour or so), and the Emu server will try to connect to it for a while and then just seems to give up. I am not quite sure what causes it to stop trying to connect, but I have looked into it a few times and found nothing that stood out in the source.

Somehow, PEQ doesn't seem to have this issue and I know they run on Linux. So, maybe it is just the distro that they use that keeps it from happening. This is an issue I would love to get resolved and it is really the only advantage that a Windows server has over Linux at this time.

Aye, aside from Linux being light-weight and easier to use (for me), the only thing I didn't really care for on the Win32 server was the ghost logins, making a server look like it had 300 people logged in when there were only 2 ;) Maybe that's been resolved since I last tried it.

I'd be more interested in why the public LS goes down "for an extended amount of time", because you're right - it has been doing that forever. I remember my Win32 console reporting a failure to contact for what seemed like hours nearly every night or so. Maybe LS is on a dynamic IP too. ~snicker~

If there is a way to get your World to keep trying endlessly, it may solve the problem.

I'm not sure what the official reason is, but it appears that all of the MySQL connections on the server side are in use, etc, which is why you sometimes get errors when trying to load the Wiki about there not being enough connections when it's happening.

I think this is one of the many reasons as to why it would be beneficial for more members to have more access to the server...
