Freezing at server login! :(
I’ve looked all over in interwebz for the answer to my problem, but can’t seem to find the fix. I just installed EQ Titanium, took all the proper measures to connect to EQEmulator (changing the host.txt file, setting the filepath to the shortcut) and started receiving the infamous “eqgame.exe has found a problem and needs to close. We’re sorry for the inconvenience,” or whatever.
So I proceeded to update my NVIDIA GeForce 6800 drivers, download DirectX 9 or higher, etc. like people have suggested. Still got the same error. THEN I just patched and updated through EQLive to see if I could at least get 14 days of nostalgia (and with my luck, I my “personal tutorial zone” wouldn’t load) and changed the host.txt file back to EQEmu’s. NOW the game would run, I could finally reach the server list!! Hooray childhood! But of course, upon clicking any EQEmu server, the window would freeze. Sometimes it modifies the gamma or something on my entire monitor while frozen, but hasn't the last few times since I tried rebooting the PC. I am able move the cursor, but it never allows me to click on anything no matter how long I wait and I am forced to ctrl+alt+del in order to get out. Does anyone have a remedy for this problem? Thank you! |
If you do any patching from live, you will have a version of the game that is not suitable for the emulator. The versions that can be used are:
1. The Titanium disc set 2. The Secrets of Faydwer disc set 3. The Seeds of Destruction starter pack download from Steam Any of the three can be used but you must not patch any of them or they will not work properly (if at all). Since you did run the patcher, you will have to uninstall and reinstall from your Titanium disc set and not run the patcher. I would suggest searching the forums for additional information if you have further problems. Chances are someone else has already had the problem you are having and the question has already been answered. |
If the client was crashing before getting to the login screen, it's probably the very common resolution bug. Look in your EQ folder for eqclient.ini, and open it up in notepad (or some other text editor) and look for this section:
[VideoMode] Set the Width and Height values to something lower, like 800x600. |
Thank you very much, you guys. I appreciate the answer. I will try to reinstall Titanium and see what happens! :)
My only question now is this: is the resolution bug with eqclient.ini something that occurs with EQEmu only? Because updating to EQLive allowed me to at least open the game without the eqgame.exe crash error, which I was completely unable to do beforehand. Either way, I suppose I will find out! |
Wwwhoooaaa! I installed my drivers and directX update after I had originally installed Titanium. Once I reinstalled Titanium completely, it ended up working!
So I guess if anyone has this problem, after you update your drivers and direct x, if it still doesn't work, try reinstalling the game completely and it just might :) Knock on wood! |
Oh bah.. I got in, changed my resolution, logged out to switch servers, and am getting the same error again. I tried modifying my resolution in EQOptions and the client.ini file (changing it to what EQEmulator's FAQ answer told me to) and it's still not doing anything. I want to get back to the original client.ini file I had but I really have no idea what it said for fullscreenbitperpixel and such.

I dug out a very old post of mine that helped someone in the past. In your eqclient.ini, try changing VideoMode as per below, and WindowedMode=TRUE
