Windows 7 64 server help

I just ATTEMPTED to make a server with this guide http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=ValesEQ and was utterly defeated.

I think it was a combination of the files and programs like Mysql and Perl being different than the guide says, but mostly it was probably the trying it on a Windows 7 64bit operating system that was the back breaker. I wish I knew what versions of Mysql and Perl to use.

I was playing EQ from the start in 1999 until last year when I no longer had the time, and was really hoping I could get a server going and play EQ with family and friends again.

If anyone can help me getting the server setup on my Windows 7 64bit system, I would greatly appreciate it.

I use XAMPP on my Win7-64x laptop. Decent all-in-one package.

I use Win 7 64 bit and I used the older guide. It works fine for me: http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=Windows

I use Perl 5.8.9 (I got the perl58.dll error with any other version, so don't use the newer ones) and I use MySQL 5.0.82. I use the x32 version of each, not the x64.

It did take me quite some time to get everything working. Now I just have to figure out an account issue and I'll be good to go.

still trying to get it working, where can I get perl 5.8.9 and MySQL 5.0.82?

Get Perl here: http://www.activestate.com/activeperl/downloads Scroll down a bit and you should see the right version. Get the x32 version. It should install easily.

Correct version of MySQL should be here: http://downloads.mysql.com/archives....ql-5.0&o=other

This version of MySQL is a PITA to install on Win 7 64 bit, or at least, it was. To get it to work correctly, right click the installer and choose compatibility mode as Win XP service pack 2. Then, follow this guide I found while Googling: http://www.comprepairgurus.com/mysql...p-guide-works/

There are a couple things you must do differently from the guide: When you navigate to mysql > bin, right click and change compatibility for mysql.exe and the MySQLInstanceConfig to WinXP Service pack 2. The rest of the guide should make it work fine.

This is the only way I got it to work. I had an EQ server running fine but then I borked it another way..hehe.
