EQEmuLoginServer.exe was unable to start correctly

So, this just happened. Everything was working fine until yesterday. I haven't changed anything directly, though I did install Apache and pHp so I could use the PEQ browser editor (which apparently works just fine)... since then (apparently) whenever I run EQEmuLoginServer.exe I get a popup saying:

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc00007b). Click OK to close the application."

Search has turned up nothing useful. I tried re-downloading the login server files but that didn't help either. It doesn't generate any error logs that I can see either, so all I have to go on is that popup.

Is it Apache and/or pHp that could be conflicting? Why can't things just work? :P

Halp!

I'm not convinced it's simply because of Apache/pHp/PEQ Editor because I have the same thing on another computer and it works just fine all together.

Just an idea, check the windows error log. Seems to be no one ever looks there and it can really help debug the problem.

I'm looking in Event Viewer, but this is all Greek to me.

I see the log of the error, but it only says what the popup window says.

Well it was worth a shot, sometimes there is more detailed information. So just try this one out for me.

Oh, yeah... I tried replacing it with that one and get the same thing.

World and Zone load fine, though, if I launch them manually.

I am kind of leaning to it being a .net framework issue. You may want to remove them and reinstall the .net framework. Also make sure your Windows is patched up.

Chanus 12-16-2010 12:18 PM

I'll give that a shot.

I also just thought of something. If you really want to trouble shoot this and you know the day it was working, why not do a recovery point restore from the day before ?

Chanus 12-16-2010 01:45 PM

Wouldn't you know, System Restore is my mortal enemy?

Yeah, it seems any time I need to actually use System Restore, it's been turned off inexplicably. I know for a fact I set it up the minute I booted up this machine for the first time, but guess what? No dice.

Argh.

Windows update resulted in a ton of stuff, apparently that hadn't been running as I set it up either. What the crap? A couple .Net updates were in there, but updates applied, rebooted, still can't start EQEmuLoginServer.exe

I'm thinking of wiping it all off and just starting fresh. Annoying, but whatever.

provocating 12-16-2010 01:48 PM

I was going to say, if your System Restore is hosed and you did not do it, guess what ? Either a virus or rootkit. If you want to do one quick think before wiping it, try running Combofix or installing Microsoft Security Essentials on it, or both and let them run.

Chanus 12-16-2010 01:51 PM

Yeah, I have MSE

I noticed yesterday that SpyBot suddenly started scanning (it hasn't scanned in weeks, I never really thought about it), but it didn't find anything unusual. Maybe I'll run Malwarebytes.

Chanus 12-16-2010 04:05 PM

Hrmm... so MSE, MalewareBytes, and SpyBot all turned up negative.

Grumble grumble grumble.

I just can't figure out why it would suddenly decide to stop working. I haven't changed anything (other than installing Apache and pHp, which I know at least aren't definite conflicts because I don't have this trouble on a different computer).

Maybe if I try hitting it.

May want to try Bleeping Computers Combofix, just to be sure.

Just from Googling around it sounds like you might have installed a 64bit version of something that the login server is looking for a 32 bit version of:

But it's odd that zone/world still work as they probably use much the same .DLLs (although I don't know what .DLLs the pre-compiled crypto library depends on).
