Lag / Timeout

Yesterday, my buddy and me got booted from my server, no idea why, there was no error message on server side. But thats not the real problem for me, rather the 2+ minutes or more my SoD client needed to realize that the connection to ther server was lost. Is there a setting to adjust the timeout?

2nd issue:
Movement of other players is choppy, theyre kind of warping around, as if their position isnt updated often enough. Its driving me a little nuts to watch this for a while. Can I make the server send player packets more often?

Thanks in advance!

If you are seeing weird lag and warping issues, it sounds like you have a multi-core CPU and are running the Titanium or SoF client. If that is the case, you probably need to see the FAQ in my sig and look at solutions for Multi-Core CPU issues.

As for timing out from the server when you get disconnected or a zone crash occurs, that is handled client-side and I don't think there is any way to adjust it. If that happens, you can just /exit or /quit to get out and log back in again quicker. That is, if you are still in game when you see it drop.

I have already read that nice FAQ, but I am running the SoD under Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit), so I guess there is nothing I can do except setting the compatibility mode?

If you run an AMD processor, you might need to get the AMD Optimizer as mentioned in FAQ/Thread.

I abandoned AMD a long time ago ;)

Maybe your connection to/from the server is too slow. I would assume you run it on the same LAN though, so that shouldn't really be a problem. Low bandwidth or maybe very weak server stats could cause lag due to performance issues. Also, if you have stuff like big downloads/uploads running on your connection, that could potentially cause it too.

Netstat window says 58-60ms constantly. I have a 16x DSL internet line.

I need to ask my buddy if he got a AMD processor, maybe thats why i see him warping.

Ahh, if it is only him that you see warping and not yourself and NPCs, then yeah, he is probably having a multi-core CPU issue.

npcs are moving normal, only we see the other one warping, but both of us.

If he has the multi-core CPU issue, then he will also see pathing NPCs warp a bit, but maybe not as bad because they aren't moving as fast generally.
