Networking questions
Ok. Here's what I have. 2 machines running win 2k, one client and one server.
The server machine is directly connected to the internet via my ISDN line. The client machine is connected to it by ethernet. They share the net connection. Reason I did this was to have either the entire server or just the zone servers on a seperate machine from the Everquest Client to avoid letting it get bogged down. Here's the problem. I have the world server on my client machine. Everything boots up fine. When I try to log into my server via eqemu login, it can't be seen. I don't think my server machine is routing the connection properly and tosses the user out with a 1017. Anyone else who's used multiplt win2k machines, what can be done to fix this problem? I don't have a hardware router or a firewall. Is the server acting as a router in this? |
The emulator has problems with supporting LAN + Internet connections at the same time. You're going to have to setup your server machine to listen on either your lan or external (internet) IP but not both.
|
Yeah. I'm not setting it up to listen on both. The world server listens on the internet connection, so it can get out.The zone servers(hosted on a different machine) listen on the lan to the world server and connect fine. The problem lies with people trying to connect to a machine that's down the LAN line from the internet connection. I need to figure out some way to route the internet connection to the world server.

PULLING MY HAIR OUT!
Ok. Now to calm myself and give the problem reasonably.
I'm running two Windows 2000 boxes. One to act as server and one to act as client. I have internet connection sharing up and running to give both machines net access, though that's mainly for my client software. Here's the archtecture: Internet | Server 192.168.0.1 | Client 192.168.0.2 I get the server up and running on the server machine fine. I run eqw on my client machine and try to log in through eqemu1.eqemu.net; this is the output to the worldserver window: 122707 New client from ip: 192.168.0.2 port: 144 Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Client disconnected Removing client from ip:192.168.0.2 port:1448 131209 New client from ip: 192.168.0.2 port: 1448 Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Logged in: LS#5479: Norvak Client disconnected Removing client from ip:192.168.0.2 port:1448 It is my understanding that ICS changes the packet sizes. That's fine, but how do I fix this? I CANNOT install a router on my network, because it is incompatible with my internet connection hardware. So needless to say, I'm stumped and about -><- this close to just deleting the server altogether. Any ideas? I've been at this for days. |
No one knows huh?
|
Actually, Xarslik had the right idea. Look at this thread for answers: http://forums.eqemu.net/showthread.php?threadid=1134
|
Thanks, but I've done this already.
|
Well, looks like I'll have to wait until after the fix from the previous patch before I can try anything else.

..
Norwalk any progress on this? i might have similar problem
Thanks Mudman |
