Running P99 on Mac OS X - no models

Hello folks,

I hope that I've posted this issue in the right section.

As mentioned in the title, I'm planning on running EQ on my MacBook Air using Wineskin.

Here's what I've already done:

- setting up a wrapper and copying my EQ folder from my Windows partition (it works well with Bootcamp)

- modifying certain files to get the emulator working (as described in the links below)

I've managed to start the game and actually play it on "Project 1999". It works just fine, but the only issue is that it won't show any character models, neither NPC nor PPL. I can only see the names floating in the air. In the character menu the camera height even changes if I choose a small race like dwarves, for example.

I've set up Wineskin using these links:

http://www.project1999.org/forums/ar...p/t-56238.html

http://www.project1999.org/forums/sh...ad.php?t=56238

What I've already tried to solve this problem:

- running with only one CPU core (little tipp I got by searching the internet)

- changing in-game model settings to both old and "new"

- enabling/disabling some of the settings in the game options (and restarting of course)

- already tried to change the models to Luclin versions (and back to the classic EQ) using guides, but had no luck there either

As you can see, I've already tried several ways and workarounds, which could be related to my problem in any way, but I haven't been lucky up until now. Since I'm still in love with EQ after all these years I'd love to play it without any problems on my Mac. Of course, I can still use Bootcamp, but having a Windows partition consumes space I'd rather use for my Mac OS :-)

Here are the specs of my MacBook:

Intel Core i5 2 x 1,3 Ghz
4GB RAM
Intel HD 5000 (graphics)

I really don't think that it's related to the specs though...

I really hope that anybody can help me here.

Best regards,

First of all, good post. You told us what you've tried and that is extremely helpful when troubleshooting.

I have had this same problem on Linux with Wine, where no character models are rendered. I got it to work by unchecking "Allow hw Vertex Shaders" in the in-game options under Display->Advanced and restarting the game.

Hi and thanks,

If there's any problem with my software I usually spend much time reading board posts before I actually ask for any help. I'm aware that nobody can help me well if I don't describe the problem in detail from the very beginning :-)

I've just tried your suggestion, but sadly it doesn't solve my problem. :-(

I unchecked the box you mentioned and restarted the game (there isn't any button to confirm the changes in-game, is there?) but nothing seemed different. After that I disabled all the shaders, shadows etc. but that didn't help either.

But thanks for the tip anyway. I was actually pretty shocked that I didn't think about modifying the in-game settings at first.

Does anybody have any other ideas about my problem? I'd be really happy to solve that one :-(

Thanks and best regards,

GReddy

No, I have never seen a confirmation dialog for those settings.

What version of Wineskin do you have? Or more specifically, what version of Wine does Wineskin use? (I'm not familiar with it)

This bug has been claimed to be fixed as of Wine 1.7.3:

Hello,

The last tip actually worked! :-) I set Wine 1.7.1 as my default engine since most games I've ported to my Mac so far seemed to work better with that one. Just did the update to 1.7.3, logged in and saw my still-far-too-low-lvl Wood Elf. ^^

Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it! Hopefully this thread helps other Mac-/Linux-users with similar problems, since EQ + Wine(skin) is a combination you don't see very often on the internet, which made research (in case of problems) pretty hard for me.

Cheers and best regards!

Not a problem. I'm glad that you got it working. I have Wine 1.7.3 now, but now I remember that turning off the hw vertex shaders did not work for me either on a lower version of Wine (a while back).

Also, I'm sure you'll level-up in no time;)

Have fun.

Hi,

Hehe I guess it's gonna take a while to lvl up, since I switched from constant to casual gaming due to my work / studies. But even though EQ is pretty time consuming, that game, IMO, is second to none and bestowed most precious hours of gameplay on me. :-)

But I don't want to start an off-topic discussion about that.

See you around and best regards!
