Newbie SQL question

Hey all. So, this past weekend I sat down and created my server for EQEmu. It took some doing, but I followed the wiki and got it up and running smoothly.

The next step for me is to start going in and learning how to tweak the server to what my group wants to play on. I want to learn to affect drop rates, possible scale mobs, etc.

I'm a complete and total newbie to this and as such I was hoping that someone could recommend a good starter guide for it. Like an "I don't even know how to open SQL files" kind of guide. Something that will answer questions like "can I copy a db file and open it on another computer to edit?"

I'm sure this has been asked before and for that I apologize. I looked through the forums but there's just so much there that I didn't know where to start.

Thanks much for any help/suggestions.

you can always export and import the database. but to see if it will works needs to be in the server pc and also best if using Heidi sql.. to have the same version on both machines. and most important... make sure you backup the good database before you overwrite it. :)

The PEQ web editor is probably the best thing for doing database tweaks. I recommend learning the ins and outs of MySQL, but manual manipulation is a bit terse for the sort of content changes most people want to do.

Use this. It will save you hours. And it is safe. Akkadius among other developers created it just for us. :)
