Scorpious2k server after Hermine
The hurricane knocked out our power for a few days. The server itself wasn't affected since we host it on a server not in Florida, but it was on autopilot during that time.
The website and voice servers are back up and I am working to get everything back to "normal." |
Well, it wasn't a hurricane but probably due to the weakened infrastructure we lost power for a few hours last night and when it came back, a computer we knew was about to go... did.
So the website is back up on a different computer with a backup from 4 PM yesterday. |
Ouch. I am thankful for the semi-stable power grids we have where I live. We don't get
hurricanes, but power outages are very rare and usually no more than 20-min to half hour. Sometimes in winter when the wind and ice get going, a lot of power fluxuations, but I bought myself a UPS to remedy that problem for my puters. It's only good for 30 min max, but adds a little comfort. (chuckle) |
We have wind, but what is this ice thing of which you speak? Is it like the cubes we put in our drinks here as we sit in the sun by the ocean??
We do have multiple UPS but they last only so long. A 350VA on the cable modem, 425 on routers, and 850 on the computer that is running the website. The computer is good for about 30 minutes, the others keep our LAN (and internet usually) up for an hour or longer. Anything longer than that is usually rare around here. |

up and run a bath, we can sit by the tub in a lawn chair drinking margaritas :) I use a 900w UPS for both modem and puters. It runs at about 24% load when idle. If power goes out more than a few minutes, I will shut one puter down. Might think about another UPS someday. |
Hey, we have winter! It gets cold. Sometimes below 32 (as a low). That's freezing! And this kind of weather goes on for weeks. Sometimes 5 or 6 weeks!!
We have multiple UPS in part because the equipment is spread out in three different rooms. It's an interesting network setup. I did some cheap shopping on ebay to come up with the UPS we have. |

not so bad. Warmest temp I see is 82 (max) with average 77 in summer. With your summer temps, I would have to be sleeping on a 20,000 BTU air conditioner, (chuckle) I don't even sleep with a blanket as it is in the winter. The heat stays on about 74 through the winter and shut off about April 1st. I have my new server setup in a seperate room with dust filtering and air cooled. You can see a glimpse of it in the vid trailer posted on my (soon to be website) http://abacrone.com (being edited, as we speak) |
Nice work on the website so far.
I was born and grew up in northern Illinois, not far from Wisconsin so I know what you are talking about. On the other hand my kids (ok not kids anymore) have never lived anywhere that doesn't have fire ants or where the weather man uses the words "below zero" in reference to local weather. |
Thanks, it's getting there. I'm a little bit closer to the northern lights in canuckland but on
the prairies. The eastern part, they get big big snow squalls, but not so freezing temps in the winter. But here we get the freezing, but not as much snow as we did back in the 70's |
Yeah, I don't miss it.
|
FYI, the mumble & website computer is down. I'm working on getting it back up, but it could be the motherboard. Sorry for any inconvenience.
|
We're back. I installed a new motherboard (again). Mumble and the website are back up.
