Any way to enter a zone when I'm in a public server?

Hi, brand new here this week. I started by trying to setup my own server, but I got in a little over my head till I realized all i needed was to login to one of the EQEMu servers to do what I wanted, at least i think i will be able to.

I ended up patching to the latest EQ version, which has made it impossible to get into most servers, but i have gotten into one, so now i have a question, which i think is a non-technical one. How can i get in a zone that isn't up? or does the administrator of the server have to start it? meaning i can only goto the zones that are listed as up by the #ZONESTATUS command?

The way i hear people talking, they are able to goto most zones, but is that only on personal servers or on servers where they just 'happen' to be up?!?

My intended wish is the explore the remainder of the zones I couldn't when i played EQ regularly (a 55 solo necro can do 95% of the pre luclin content, which I did, killed everything in every zone that was possible, culminating in the soloing of a even con dragon construct in the dragon necropolis). So i want to explore and fight some of the things I missed (not fairly mind you). To do this will I have to use my own server? or just hang around for a helpful admin to show up and maybe boot the zone?

I've read just about everything I could find, and no luck.

Also, this whole project is amazing. I've had a great time just sitting and outfitting a character with uberloot and every buff I can think of. Tells me how little i know about the endgame spells and equip.

Have you tried to use the #zone zoneshortname command. Some servers might have it deactivated but most should allow you to go whereever you want. Beware though that if all 5 or how many zone server are up and running with people in them you won't be able to zone in.

hehe

LOL,

This is exactly the response i got on the server i am on, two different people, two different opinions. ONe guy i was asking didn't know what i was talking about, he said you just need to use the #zone command, and the other guy said only the lead GM can do it. But if its server specific, that helps me understand the differing opinions.

Thanks.
