New Players - Servers will be different
This is just something to remind new players about when connecting to servers
on that list you see when you boot up your EQ client.(If you're reading this) I seriously think that some people may be under the impression that they can freely logon to any server on that list with their EQ client, assuming they would be able to do so, expecting the same login requirements for all of them. EVERY server is different. Some of them, you WILL NEED one particular client that may be the only client that is compatible with that server, then in many cases you won't be able to use that same client on some other servers because it is not compatible. Others will prompt you to download custom file packs you need to put in your client folders to access some of the content on the server. That can even include something simple, like creating a character, which may involve custom starting zones, etc. Not all servers are the same. Some servers support Titanium client only, some welcome more than one client and others will only support RoF2. If you're going to be hopping around different servers, you may want to BACKUP your original client files and use a full seperate copy of your client for each custom server you play on. Custom files for each server can (and will) be different. (most commonly, custom spell files and custom zones) I realize it's difficult when a server is not registered and has no description or site listed, but you risk wasting time and hassles logging on to those ones. But for the servers that DO have something to read, it's worth your while in more ways than one to take a few minutes and find out about a server you might be looking at. Just reading about the server can save you the disappointment of finding out it was not something you were interested in. I can't speak for other server owners, but the "server info" on websites, forums, etc., is not just for the sake of looking good, but letting new players know what they are getting into before they logon. It really is a courtesy to new players. |

doesn't eq launcher maintain server files? or is that mostly under-used by sysops?
i keep a backup folder. each server folder mimics the EQ game directory structure and location of various files. simply select all, copy and paste when necessary. an "original files" directory too... you'd have to include any file changed by any server -- small stuff no big deal. (always keep an archive of your original eqemu-viable client, too.) |
EQ Launcher is no longer under active development. I also believe the entire "moestaverne" website or whatever is no longer online. So it got nixed.
