2 questions about The Heroes Journey class select
 

I'm just about to start playing THJ after setting it up.

I have 2 questions about classes.

First question: if I want to do beastlord as the second or third class, what pet will it give me if I created a Dark Elf? Can I choose or does it assign me one.

Also: Are the racial bonuses important in this? I remember back in the day if you wanted to be a necromancer, people suggested Iksar for the regen. How important is that in THJ?
