New TOS
The new terms of service are a bit confusing to me.
I can totally understand that to use the eqemulator.org login server, you would need to agree to the new TOS. Is this all that has changed? For example, If I am running my own commercial project using EQ Emulator, I just can't use eqemulator.org as the login server? |
Correct. If you expose the local login server(which is not very secure!) to the internet you can do what you want. That's acceptable for playing with your best buddies but going commercial would be sort of a financial death sentence and I seriously doubt anyone in his right mind would play there anyway.

I have my own client and my own content:

Oh, nice. But you would have to throw out anything Everquest related to make it work. Art, lore, quests, zones, everything or DBG will surely come after you.
|
Yes, I have nothing belonging to EverQuest (except some placeholder icons that I'm getting rid of).
I currently use the eq emulator login server and I was just trying to clarify whether or not I can continue to use it. I think the answer is that I cannot. |
I'd wager a guess and say that even the reverse engineered networking protocol is the IP of DBG. If you are really want to go commercial you should probably consult a lawyer.
