EQEMu Website / Loginservers / Forums

Well, I figured I would post this information incase anybody cared.

As of tonight, we have a new database system setup to help stop failures from happening. We have 3 copies of the database up and running now. If worse comes to worse, just the forums will become unavailable, but the login servers (atleast one) will keep on processing logins.

Currently, we run 3 mysql databases.
1) Master DB (Mysql 4.0.10-gamma) Hosted inhouse on a dual sparcstation 20
2) Website DB (Mysql 4.0.10-gamma) Hosted on the website/forums machine in a readonly mode
3) Loginserver1 DB (Mysql 4.0.10-gamma) Hosted on the eqlogin1 machine in a readonly mode

When the website or logins look for data (Select statements), they are retrieved from the local database. This allows fast access to this data. When someone posts or edits a post or adds a new user, etc (update, insert statements), it sends it out to the master database so it can be replicated back down to both mirrors.

Now, you may ask, why is this so good for us? Well, logins will now be independent from the other "uses" of the servers. This also allows us to take down the main database (which is also used to host the Foreverhacking server db).

The next step? I dont know, but it would be fun to findout!:)
