Is the zone crashing? That is the #1 reason for going linkdead in a zone with eqemu.

I can't seem to zone into permafrost without going LD.
Also I've noticed that after a couple hours my zones that I have booted will shut off completely and I'm left with just world.exe running. Any thought ? |
Is there an eqemudebug.txt file (or is it .log) in your eqemu directory? This is a file that is created when a zone crashes and would be helpful to find out if it is crashing or not (This only works on Windows, not *nix versions)

no what happens is that ill have 5 people fighting on a mob...and 3 go LD in the fight...then after the fight the last 2 go LD after the 3 that went LD get back.
and sometimes the zone crashes....got an idea of what to do?.. |
There's not a whole lot that can be done about zone crashes, but the LD's are common even when you run a local server with the client on the same machine. I think that they may be caused by the emu itself. If I'm bashing the software unneccessarily, please stop me.

EQEmu is quite bandwidth intensive, so depending on your connection speed, your friends may be going LD because you just don't have the bandwidth.
I've heard that setting a datarate of 10 will cause problems for other players. Other thoughts.. High DB activity can cause LD's.. WRT zone crashes.. You can always do what I do and start the zone.exe manually in a "command" window such that if it crashes, you can copy/paste the output into the Bugs forum and let them know what you were doing at the time. If you don't start it in a command window, the zone.exe window will just close and you wont see the output. -Auldar |
As a side note, when the current EQLive patches are supported in EQEmu, this will help the bandwidth usage since packet compression is used.
Also, EQEmu is pretty stable on my standalone client/server. The only time I go LD is due to a zone crash (and I report it with steps to reproduction if possible), or if I do a search on the DB, and the DB takes up alot of CPU time. EDIT: According to the News forum, the next version of EQEmu, 0.4.2 will reduce the load on the DB, so hopefully that means I'll see less occurances of LD due to DB using all my CPU. -Auldar |
