Server requirements..

Anyone know a good hardware layout for a server? MHZ and RAM per person specs? Connection requirements if i was to put a server online?

Well for a program like EQ, the "ideal" server would be as many computers on a network as you can get. As for specs themselves your internet connection is the most vital part of all the better your connection the the better your server will preform with a good load. System specs Ide suggest the following

P2/p3/celeron 500mhz + (i use an old k62 550 and it works great)
pc133 ECC ram (as much as you can get)
hard drive size really isint an issue.. 5+ gigs is more then enough but you want them to be the fastest HD's possible (idealy SCSI)
video = enough to read text, Sound is pointless.
go for a stable motherboard.

I would debate that hard drive speed won't really matter, there is very little disk i/o actually going on.

RAM is the big thing, then CPU.

I agree on the motherboard, if youre going to skimp on a componet, never skimp on the motherboard. Go with a good, reputable brand.

how do you think this comp would do as a server:

333 Mhz P2
64 SDRAM
3 Gig HD  lol
512k Cable connection

I know it probably wouldn't be much as a server, but it is worth a try.

Your biggest bottleneck is going to be RAM there..

You can run a few zones off it, but I wouldnt try to host a decent zone server with less than 256. Sharemem helps out alot with this, and maybe I'm speaking a bit out of my ass as I run my server completely on linux..

Give it a shot though, and let us know your results.

Hey Trump what about this for a server.

HP Netserver LHPro
Dual Pentium PRo 200
1GB RAM
45GB Raid 5
2mb video card

Running Linux.

Would like your thought on that please.

Sweet !

I am thinking about donating it but the problem is that it weighs a ton.
