Hi, i'm somewhat new to EQEMu, I just started about a week ago, foreverhacking server was just starting to go legit... when I first started I could summon any item without restrictions and now a few days later pretty much all the fun items you could play with are banned from summoning (right clicky aego ring, all and any gm items like the clicky sow pants... and tons of other stuff..) and without it, I just am not having fun...

So, I was going to request that someone could start a 100% non legit server for the sake of having fun -- let people do what they want to do with their time, there are tons of legit servers around now that seem to be working well enough and a few people use them but I can't seem to find a server that will actually let you summon anything, use #zone to go everywhere and anywhere, let you level yourself or set your own skills etc etc thats stable and has monsters in most/all zones. I would start my own server for such a thing but I don't have the time / money / bandwidth / extra computer laying around / skills to set up a server for EQEMu.

PLEASE someone start a 100% non-legit server, one that works and is fun. If you do I and many other people will be very greatful and very happy :D

I agree, I love Krusher's server, and they are going Legit, and although i'll still play that server because i know ppl etc but it would be fun for awhile to play a non legit server how u can just make urself 65, put AA points to whatever and summon whatever you want

You can easily do all those things if you host your own server. Hosting your server isn't all that hard if you have a brain and can use it.

The problem with non-legit servers is that they are shortlived. Why? They're simply not fun to play. People don't stick around. There's no challenge, and challenge is the very essence of every game. The challenge is to "win" in whatever way you can, and when everything is given to you freely, the challenge is completely removed. Being a god for a while is entertaining, but eventually, you get bored.

And when even the players don't like it after a reasonably short time, what happens to the host? Who wants to host a server with players that come and go short of a complete altruist?

I know I'd rather host a server where people sticked around than one where they go away faster than they join.

Everything you said is 100% true. But with the non-legit servers, you wont have the same people sticking around, but you will always have people playing just to mess around. The people don't continually play, but they come in just as fast as they go out.

I think that a non legit server would be more fun. If I wanted to not be able to summon items or level fast or have fun, I'd play EQLive. But, it's pointless to make your own server that's legit and has no one playing. Challenge is good, but, if it's 100%, i don't think that people would want to play on a 100% legit server, unless it's run by Sony. Most people want to have a balance between them, some middle spot where the game can be fun and challenging but not limiting everything that you could potentially do.

Well, unfortunatly I disagree with you on that. Sure, Sony is always one step ahead of us (maybe more) mainly because THEY decide what everquest does, not us. But I think I'm willing to sacrifice that for not paying $15 a month to play a game....I already spent the money to buy the cd...why should I pay every month after that?

It costs money to run servers and update content. The servers here don't have 2000 people per server, and they also don't have hundreds of hired people to be GMs to stop people from greifing everyone etc. If they did i'm sure there wouldn't be more than one or two public servers, and you can pretty much bet that sony would start some sort of lawsuit *shrug* but thats not the point of me starting this topic.

All I ask for is one stable working server where people can play around and have fun on without having the giant time sinks of 'legit' type servers and that you can be anything you want to be. Sure, some people won't stick around, I know I wouldn't play there all day long every day, but whenever I got sick of eqlive servers i'd stop by and play my chars on it and have fun going to zones I could never go to on my eqlive chars. I'm addicted to everquest, but it isn't as fun as it started out to be, lower levels you can do anything and not worry about it, in the 50s its almost impossible to do such a thing as screwing around would get you killed, and if you don't shell out $$$ for a rez you lose an hour or two of time you spent xp grinding.

If I wanted to play a 'legit' server i'd play eq, and I do, 13$ a month is very cheap for a game that I get more time out of than all the other computer games i've ever had combined (which is ALOT of games... can't really give an accurate number, but i'd say over 50). Almost every zone in EQEMu has a place where you will crash and have to restart eq and load again so you can log onto another character and #movechar him to another zone thats stable so you can search for another zone to xp in... but that will all eventually be fixed so my opinion on EQEMu as being a substitute for an eqlive server may change.

Don't get me wrong, the developers of EQEMu are doing a very good job with the emulator and foreverhacking server IMO, they aren't gods, and they don't have the hundreds of hired people to help them like sony does, but they do a damn good job with what they've got to work with, I hope they keep up the good work for the sake of the EQEMu community, and we should support them as much as we can. I just wish we could have a *good* public server with the small community atmosphere that has no limitations on it.

That's a nice and all, but the problem is that it's just not fun to run a non-legit server when people come and go as they do. So why don't you run one? I mean, when everyone seems to be starting to go legit, there must be something that's not fun about running a levelme server, right?

I realize that you'd rather play EQLive if everything was going legit, so I present you with these Fabulous Four options:

• Go away and play EQLive.
• Run your own non-legit server.
• Hope that a non-legit server pops up.
• I lied, there is no fourth option. Have a banana?

I mean, all I ask for is a Ferrari, but I'm not going to get that either.

People didn't really read my first post I think, all you guys keep doing is telling me to make my own server =P

Only having one computer would mean that if I started a server, basically only myself could play on it. I only have a 1.1ghz computer with 640mb of ram and a geforce 3 ti 500... its not enough to play something like battlefield 1942 and run a server on... so i'd only put the server up when I wanted to play. I was asking for a server for the community, not just myself. If noone wants to make a stable working non legit server then so be it :(

Point is moot as someone has indeed made a non-legit server called, "LEGIT SERVERS SUCK."
