Question about hosting
 i have regular 1.23mbps cable internet and a:
I have a 1.4mhz amd athlon processer, 40gig 7200 rpm hard drive, 512 DDR ram,ATI radeon 9500 pro video card with 128mbddr sdram, and Windows ME. How Many People Could I host????????????? |
Well...1.41 mhz isnt fast, but I think you mean GHz
Also, it takes about 30mb of ram per zone, so that 128 will disappear FAST in just 4 zones.... Atleast get 512 ram for server, or even better 1024.... But then again ur the one who wants to host also u said 128 mb ddr sdram.... well... is it ddr or sdram? 2 completely different things...sort of makes a BIG difference |
He said he had 512mb of sytem RAM, and 128MB of Video RAM, not 128MB of system RAM. And i believe he was right in saying DDR SDRAM, DDR ram is just Duel Data Rate SDRAM, is it not?
|
Correct, though it's become to norm just to say DDR for short :D
EDIT: read it too quick, DDR=double data rate but you had the right idea More Editing: I've been running it on 256mb of SDRAM, haven't had more then one person logged in at once but it's run OK so far (although I have to remember to check the RAM usage next time I log in) |
 back to the question how ppl ppl could it handle?
|
Is your cable upload speed capped? I get 1.55Mbps download 144kbps upload for example. That will be the huge factor in how many people you can host.
